Worried about my teeth will this effect my peformance

Postby coolvoices » Nov 22nd, '11, 04:51

Hi I am really just starting the wonderful field of ventriloquism, but I've been having a problem, I am a very stressed person and as such have the unfortunate tendency to grind my teeth, having worn them down a bit, and chipped some of them, only minor chips, I am worried that I might have a problem with doing voices, I have heard that chips in teeth cause the sound of people talking to sound like their whistling through their broken tooth at certain points in the speech.

I have also heard that one actor had problems with his teeth which made it hard to do different accents, but both of this examples have been taken from a movie (alex & Emma http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318283/ )and a ad by a American dentist advertising through one of his patients who is a voice actor unfortunately I cannot remember their names or the website at this time, anyhow I don't know if they are true or not,

I am planning on having special resin put on my teeth in the future(but this may not happen, due to the fact that fillings can often make the teeth worse due to drilling), if the dentist thinks it's necessary, and wearing a mouth-guard that I will do soon.

I was wondering if worse comes to worse and my teeth do develop more cracks and even grind down more, will this effect my future performance?

Please help,
and with your answers would the same apply to voice over and singing?

Trust me! No-one will be looking at your teeth. As a ventriloquist, all attention will be on the guy sitting on your knee
