Stacked Decks

Postby AA 14 » Dec 21st, '11, 12:23

Hi Guys
Can anyone advise me about stacked decks please? ie Which is the most commonly used? or which is your favourite and why?

As mentioned elsewhere, I have obtained a copy of Lennart Greens Masterfile and he teaches some very good stuff using a stacked deck.

I have also heard of the Aronson stack? {I hope that is correct?}

Can anyone advise any books or DVDs on stacked decks? I know there is a chapter in Encyclopedia of Card Tricks on certain arrangements.

Thanks Guys

Si Stebbins. Nuff said. People worry about the order, but I've NEVER had anyone spot a pattern in it. It has so many properties.

I agree with Tomo that Si Stebbins is great. I have used it for many years with no problem. That said, I have discovered another stack that is only slightly harder to learn but there is no discernible pattern. Don't get me wrong - you can avoid showing the Si Stebbins pattern by handling the cards less than smoothly, or simply not showing the faces at all. But if you want to spread the cards nicely, face up and for a long time, you will enjoy Doug Dyment's DAO stack, which is detailed in his book Tricyclic.

The book also includes a bunch of other stuff, including a couple of clever Zenner (ESP) card stacks.

I agree with this.
Also found the Aaronson too hard to learn in full :oops:

The Aronson stack is very versatile; it was originally a memorised stack but you don't need to memorise it to use it in a lot of the stacked deck routines he has published. In his books he will often put together a number of different routines which can be performed one after the other without destroying the stack. If you actually bother to memorise it (which unfortunately I haven't) there are some really strong routines you can do with it. I perform some of these routines by cheating, with a prompt card which was supplied with one of his books.

you should read up on all the stacks and why they are stacked the way they are

many have effects built into the deck, poker dems etc

nmonica is very versatile and has lots of half stack effects you can do whilst you are learning the full stack

You could read up on what the stacks provide without learning them all.

I often find that different stacks work better for different things. Have a look at as many as you can find and see what works best for what you want. Personally, I'm a big fan of Si Stebbins, it tends to work well for most things.

I use Mnemonica because that is simply what I memorised.
