Does any one know of the story about a magician who stopped a war by using a “Light & Heavy Box”?

Yes, it was the so-called grandaddy of modern magicians, Robert-Houdin. His books, and others, tell the full story but Google or Wikkipedia will probably be just as useful...

If you have not read it there is also the story of Jasper Maskelyne who used his stage skills during g WW2. His best known trick being concealing the Suez Canal from aerial bombing.
Edited to add, a recent book about Jasper was called The War Magician & is by David Fisher.

Actually, that's all a pack of lies according to wiki:

A recent study by Richard Stokes revealed that much of the story concerning the involvement of Jasper Maskelyne in counterintelligence operations, as described in the books "White Magic" and "Magic: Top Secret", was pure invention, and that no such a unit christened "Magic Gang" ever existed. Maskelyne's actual role in the deception war was actually marginal. ^

Bill Smith restored the original chest about a dozen or so years back. I forget who has it now, I could be in the Dr. Albo collection but I'm not positive. It's a beautiful looking piece however.

Also the subject of Brian Moore's novel "The Magician's Wife". It's a really good book.

That would make sense. . . and that's one hell of a treasure room.
