Special writing pad?

Postby cc100 » Jan 9th, '12, 10:08

Does anybody know where I could get a writing pad with a holder in the back to put cards in, which you can then surreptitiously add to a deck? I won't mention what trick it is for as it might give some of the method away. Some of you might know anyway.

Thanks,

Im with him.

Make one youself. You even could use an envelope with the flap cut off.
If you want a cleaner version, use 1 shimmed card, and have a maggi inside the pad. this will keep a small stack in place, which you sandwich between card and pad, untill you need it.

I don't know if you own the book 'Pure Effect' by Derren Brown but in it is an effect called 'Plerophoria', it shows you how to easily construct your own pad, if you don't own it there are much cheaper publications out there that show the same thing. In 'Pre-Thoughts' by Banachek, (which you can pick up for 8 quid) it shows how you can add cards to the deck using just the card box, no need for a pad. There are other good effects in there, especially the chair routine and the booklet also shows how to easily construct your own boon writer.

Of course, if you dont hand the pad out, and dont put it down... you dont need any special pads at all. :D

Yes the effect I was referring to was 'Plerophoria', but I wasn't sure whether to say as it might give away part of the method. I haven't got Pure Effect (I haven't got a hundred or so quid lying around at the minute unfortunately) but I saw it in the Derren Brown Lecture DVD. Didn't know there was a description about how to make one in the book. I might just have a go at making my own. Cheers for the suggestions.

ahhh i got beaten to the plerophoria shout.
I tried this a couple of months ago. I ended up with a floor full of small bits of paper, a cut finger, glue everywhere, and a useless notepad that wouldnt hold any cards. FML.

don't let me put you off though, I'm really inept at this stuff, I'm sure you'll be fine. Im pretty sure derren recommends cutting out the back of the pad so there's a card sized hole, then bulking up the thickness with mounting board and just ripping out the back half of the pages. I decided not to get mounting board and just cut a hole in each page, this takes effing ages, and when you're done the 'walls' wont be vertical unless you are some kind of genius and its a HUGE pain if the cards are then too tight in the hole. Plus cards can still slip out the side because the pages are loose. BUY MOUNTING BOARD :D thats what i am DEFINATELY doing when i get round to my second attempt.

Ali Bongo had an effect, that is on dvd if you look about, that used this ruse.
he held the cards with 2 small slits in the cover. Think scrap book, or photo corners, and you will get the idea. It takes seconds to make up, and works perfectly.
