Postby Allen Tipton » Jan 7th, '12, 17:07

A BBC report says--that Aladdin's Cave for magicians--Hawkin Bazaard has gone into administration.
They going to try and save the jobs of the people who work in the 60 odd stores across the UK

Let us hope they will continue, at least on line.

We used to buy pop-pop boats from there and race them. Happy days...

It's a locally based business & they have been talking about this since just after Christmas. I think what has happened is that the administrator has decided to close shops, or more shops & thus it's back in the news.

Bad timing as the two shops near to me were having a 50% off sale after Christmas but never reopened after the holiday. Full size arm choppers were in stock as well........ :(

That's a real shame, I love a good hunt around Hawkin's, seeing what intersting and fun things I can find

Their website is still up and running and the daft news is that the £10 arm choppers are now.... 4 for £10!

See http://www.hawkin.com/20670-16198/magic-arm-chopper and, yes, I've ordered 4.... plenty of scope to decorate them with different amounts of blood and gore.....

I dropped by to our closest HB today to see if there were any last minute bargains for grabs but they were shipping stuff out in boxes and taking down shelves already. Big white lorry outside to take it all away.

One of the Norwich stores was open at 3.45 today & looked to be trading as normal.

According to the BBC news story, many of the shops have been closed but not all of them. Despite loss of jobs the intention is to sell Hawkins as a going concern so keep your fingers crossed!

Solihull store was closed yesterday, although it seemed quite well stocked. Lots of "50% off Closing Down Sale" posters in the windows though. :(

I must confess I used to have mixed feelings about Hawkins B when I found they were selling a mini version of the Die box for pennies. The little children were snapping them up, making me feel that I could never get away with mine again. It was many months before I used my proper box in front of an audience but I need not have worried as the Kids loved it.
