Does anyone use Swamis any more?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Sorry, a week late to reply, but a reply nonetheless... I don't like the centre tear because I don't think it makes any sense. I claim to read minds, so to prove it I ask my spectator to write something down and then I immediatley take it off them and tear it up. I do like the presentation which is presented in Corinda, using an ash tray, and I occasionally perform it like that, but in no other capacity can I convince myself that it is anywhere near as great as Corinda makes it out to be- there are far better billet techniques, as far as I am concerned. :)

I actually saw Corinda do it exactly as described in his book. It seemed pretty good to me. And the Centre Tear IS a very strong item. It produces gasps in the hands of a good showman. As for the tosh that you need to have a reason for writing it down I don't think you do and besides a good showman can come up with one very easily. It isn't rocket science to come up with a little patter to justify it. I think it is never the trick but the man behind the trick that counts.

I thought it was just something taught in easy magic books (and the back of cereal boxes, as I think Craig once mentioned), but then I saw Ted Lesley do the CT on one of his L&L videos. It really was amazing, because Ted worked in some other mentalism skills, and it completely transformed the trick from "I know what name you wrote" to a "I can visualise the person you are thinking of, describe them and give your their name".

On the other hand, if people don't like using the CT or a pencil swami, it's a free country!

Indeed. If that showman is Docc Hilford, he can come up with many!

"now write this down so you can't change your mind afterwards...oh actually, I trust you, we don't really need this"

May I add something... " Just imagine it in your mind the same way you actually drew it "
" Just imagine it in your mind clearly the same way you printed it "
" Just imagine the numbers clearly in your head the same way you wrote them "

rip rip rip :)
It is indeed true that when you write something down, it sticks well into your mind, which helps you pick up "subtle cues" of what someone's thinking off. State that information. Most students know it. This is why they have revision side-notes before the exam that they carry around half an hour before the exam starts. ( Or, teachers who make you write something down 100 times to know the spelling. You could say that " Well, 100 times is too much, but it does help in sticking something into your head" ) ?To be honest, what really sticks stuff into your mind well is the mnemonic systems. Nonetheless, writing stuff down does help too.

Why rip it ? No one cares. Everyone is concerned about what you are / how you are sinking into their thoughts. This is why if you give importance to the rip rip rip, people will too. Ignore it. The concentration is all on what you are saying, because what you do is unique and people want to know how. After a couple of rip rip rips, no one has a clue of what you really did. You just read their minds after that.
I personally have such opinion because of pro's tips on "believe in what you're doing" ( it does show through your body language if you firmly do believe that ( that's part of acting ) )
