holding out jumbo playing cards

Postby FTHO » Jan 23rd, '12, 00:25

Hello all,

I'm working on a routine involving jumbo playing cards. The method requires me to hide 4 jumbo (A4) playing cards on my body, at some point i will remove 1 of the 4 cards from my clothes. At the moment, i cant figure out a way of holding out the jumbo cards without it being obvious that they are there. I also need all 4 to be in different places, so far i've tried under my tshirt at the front, between my jumper and tshirt at front and the same at the back, however it looks really obvious that there is something hidden under my clothes,

does anyone have any suggestions for me? i've not been able to find any references for holding out jumbo cards. has anyone had any experience concealing these cards on your body? and if so where would you advise hiding them so that they aren't obvious to the spectators.
i don't want to fold the cards, but I'm not worried about the quality of the card once its removed (i dont mind if its bent or creased etc)

look forward to hearing from you,

thanks,

Sam

Hook a paper clip onto a safety pin, this will allow you to hold them anywhere on the body.

Wearing a jacket of some kind might offer more opportunities for hidey holes.

all great advise, however upon trying, i've found that they are very rigid and stick out of my clothing (im quite skinny, it doesnt look right)
perhaps i could soften the cards, does anyone know how to soften a card without affecting the rough quality. perhaps repeatedly rolling it around a pole of some description, or perhaps soaking it in water (although that sometimes has the opposite effect)

No, dont do anything to the cards,.identify your natural hollows, and hang the card on the holder descrided above in them. under the arm is favorite. if you are skinny, this is no issue. Its only a problem if your chubby like me , because you loose the places.

This is why you dont have fat dove workers. :)

I would also wear a jacket. pin the holders onto the jacket, not onto you. The jacket is going to hang away from your body, giving you more space. If it doesnt you need to get a bigger jacket. The most important thing to remember when using any knid of body load is, you need clothes that will accomodate you... and the load.

Have 2 on the left, and 2 on the right, one above the other.

If this is for a multi out effect, you will be able to arange them, into an impromptu index.

Hi Dale,

sorry for late reply, i wanted to play around with the ideas so i could return with a useful reply. I've tried using this while wearing a jacket, and you are right, it is very effective.
you were right about it being a multi out effect and fitting 2 cards on each side of the jacket has worked really well, thank you.

i only wear a jacket about half of the time i perform, otherwise ill be wearing jeans tshirt and possibly a jumper. under the jumper the cards stick out unnaturally, if i put them under my arms as per your advise then they only stick out from the back.
my plan of action to try and resolve this is wearing some braces (maybe elasticated) and then bending the cards around my body (horizontally) and clipping the top and bottom under the brace.

i'd be interested to hear your opinion on this idea, i will also report back when i have tried it. A friend has suggested a local shop that sells cheap braces for less than £2, although he said they break easily so i should buy some more expensive ones if it works.

thanks,

Sam

Give it a go.
:)
if you are going to take your jacket off, its better to have the cards on the jacket, rather than your body. The Braces idea will work.
It might be better getting wide elastic braces, which will cost a wee bit more, because they will hold the cards much firmer. Also, the clip on the end is usually stronger.
If that clip gives way ( which they do quite often) your stuffed.
matalans, have some nice braces for about 6 quid.
