Why do you do what you do ?

Postby Connor_M » Jan 27th, '12, 11:50

I was thinking about magic as i do and realised that i love magic for the reaction
I think this is why i love the close up, on the street, a few ppl and the magician style.

But im curious as to what makes you lot do magic and your style/type ?

I just love to see the reaction on people's faces.
I also enjoy the constant learning process.
As with any hobby, you have to have a love for it, a passion.

Close up is brilliant, for me, it's as good as being able to sit down in a noisy room,
& have everyone fall silent as you begin to play a Bach peice.
I can now do both, so I will die a happy man.

Not for a while yet though :D

Passion, earning money!, knowing people will not be saying "Our Tom does that, he learnt it on youtube"!

I have above-average manual dexterity. I am also very interested in Cognitive Psychology. The only place that I know of where these two things intersect is magic!
Primarily my interest is academic. Adulation comes a distant second.

I don't know why, but after a few years of realising I far prefer writing material to performing it, I'm actually teetering on the brink of putting a show together for this summer. Only teetering, mind. I'm still looking for a core concept to build around. I might walk on with a pile of mentalism books, look through them, invite people on stage to hold them open at the right pages and play it for laughs - but with a real mentalism act going on underneath. Dunno yet.

The women...

... but seriously, because I've always loved doing it and so when it came to the point where I could earn a living from it I did. There's that famous saying where if you enjoy your work then it's not work. I feel that this applies well to me as it probably does to many of the magicians here that earn money from their performances.

Do it. You won't regret it. And that's a prediction.
I'll send you a mail...

"Ah so you think, that a Jaffa cake is actually a biscuit rather than a cake, well ladies and gentlemen, you've probably been wondering about the envelope hanging over the stage throughout the show........"
