Yeah, I've been getting as much stage time as possible over the past year, introducing things and talking about stuff. And getting comfortable dying, as anyone who was at the last Tabula Mentis will attest. If I can get good at that, why not exploit it?

As for a title... "Jon Thompson - It's Your Own Time You're Wasting..."

I do it because it gives me great pleasure and I enjoy it - and that goes for magic as well.......

No, this isn't IB material, far too obvious for that!

I do it because, deep-down, I'm a nerd who never grew up (and I rather suspect a part of me still *believes* in magic!!).

Also, I LOVE waiting for the postie-man to bring me toys...eermm...effects

I enjoy making people laugh. And I enjoy getting paid. Two good reasons, I feel.

I have absolutely no idea.

Well, that's not entirely true. I think it's because I like magic myself and want to give as well as receive. (Now that is an IB candidate.) This might be behind my motivation, as I have slowly gone off performing "regular" magic (now there's an oxymoron) as I have gone off enjoying watching it. I think this could be because the ideas behind mentalism are more powerful than the ones behind magic, at least in the modern era.

(Yes, I know mentalism is "just" a branch of magic, but there are differences.)

Magic is strange and fun and can be meaningful. Mentalism is strange and fun and should be meaningful.

At least, that's how I view it.

my uncle does kids parties with a comedy magic slant, when i was young he used to do my birthday parties and i was enraptured. Spin forward 10 years to Derren Brown on channel 4 and i was enraptured. So I think really the reason for me is wanting to make other people feel like i did. I've always been a fan of magic, i suppose it was just a matter of time before i got into it myself. Roll forward another year to the present day and I'm performing in pubs and having a great time, SO glad i took it up!

Oh yeh, and to get girls. Okay thats not the reason i started, but its the reason I'm still going ;)

As with any hobby, you have to have a love for it, a passion.

My latest show ended up being about this very point, the journey of the audience. I tried to write a cool show but ended up looking deep into why I do what I do and the story of my magical journey became the theme of the show and it worked :D
