Acrylic/Perspex, or something else?

Postby Beardy » Jan 29th, '12, 19:23

Hey guys

I have an effect whereby I need to overlap two images onstage without the aid of a projector.

Is there anything that you can think of that is cheaper than Perspex that you can recommend at all that can be visually seen, be printed on, and can be overlapped?

Cheers!

Love

Chris

Yes. That transparent stuff that you make overhead projector slides with. It can be put through a photocopier. It is also available on a roll so that you can make a large enough sheet to be seen on stage without the use of a overhead projector. Hope this helps.

I know you say no projector, but with back lighting you can make some materials change from opaque to see-through.
A bit like the 'dream scene' in theatrical productions where the actors behind the screen can suddenly be seen when the lights are turned up behind the screen.
Perhaps experiment with different grades of net curtain and front and rear lighting.
or smoked/mirrored glass with front and rear lighting.

Another possibility is to use a grid where the second image is behind the first, but a slight sideways movement of the second image makes it visible in the tiny gaps between the first.
if that works you could wow the whole audience !
There are even some ways of getting moving images using this technique.

Acetate was going to be my first suggestion.

My second one is go and ask some art students, they might have some ideas.

Which would probably involve getting wrecked.
