I can I point out that while the thread is titled Roughing Fluid we've ended up talking about Spray.
Yes, there's a difference. The main one being don't use fluid, always use a spray.

I'll be picking up a couple of cans (along with some blank decks ) at Blackpool next month and I already know they'll just be cans of spray varnish with a sticker reading "Roughing Spray" stuck over it.

I was reading in a magic publication a few days ago and the description on how to make an ID deck included using a glue stick?
I cant for the life of me work out how that could possibly work. I think I'll stick to the spray.

Here's a tip for spraying the cards. At school back in the late '70s, we were taught to panel spray. It's the same technique. You spray in horizontal lines about 18 inches away. Start spraying just past the cards, spray across quickly in a straight line and stop spraying just after the cards. Repeat until all cards are done.

Where do people buy their spray from? I've not managed to get Testors cheaper than £6.50 either delivered or over the counter from Davenports, is it likely to be cheaper from a dealer at Blackpool or does anyone recommend a good site to purchase from?

Does anyone know of any stores in central Manchester that might stock it (or Humbrol) as there's no Hobbycraft.

Google shows a few Model Shops, one is Modelzone, 209 Deansgate - http://www.modelzone.co.uk/ - they stock Airfix kits so the various varnishes are probably in their range as well.

Model Zone @ 209 Deansgate (corner of Bootle street) will certainly have Humbrol Matt or Satin Varnish spray. It's £4.99 a can.

I got mine for £4 off ebay

Had one for 6 months, use it 2-3 days a week, probably on average 4-5 times a day, still not lost it roughness.

I'd rather buy an ID which is trusted, than make one.

that's just me though

me to but i want to learn how to do it so i can make them for alot less money later and make other effects using the stuff as well

If you buy them ready made you're restricted to how you can use the R&S system where as if you make your own there is much more that can be done with them tailored to your own needs
