So, I am currently meant to perform my sponge balls routine tomorrow for an audition, but only a short time ago, my sponge balls went missing! So, is there any other type of object that could be used as sponge balls?

Rolled up serviettes. I have used these impromtu when required.

Bad news on losing the Sponge balls. I use foam balls and a foam banana sometimes but that probably does not help you. I wouldn't know of any other material apart from purchasing a few sponges and making something up yourself such as shapes. You could improvise and cut out a few squares and triangles from normal sponges and even have a different coloured shape to the rest. You still have time to order some sponge balls on line if you order today. Alakazam are excellent in their deliveries as is Mike Danata. Failing that I don't know. Maybe somebody else may know of other options.

I know it's perhaps a little obvious, but why not just pop to your local supermarket, buy a bath or car sponge, and cut it into cubes; voila - instant solution!

And if you want to try making your own sponge balls-- wet the sponge fairly thoroughly then pop it in the FREEZER.
When frozen the sponge is easier to cut and shape.
OR if your need is desperate (tomorrow?) get a sponge and just cut it into cubes. Easier than trying to shape it into balls--and NO freezing!

You will find that Natural sponge, is better than Nylon sponges.
Indeed i have a gen at home that gives instructions on how to cut your own spongeballs,From the days before such things were available from Goshmans.
And of course this is how the shell gamers used to make their peas.

It mentions cutting sponges into cubes in the first volume of the Tarbell course.

I never would have thought of freezing. Next time I need to make some sponge props I shall try that. Thanks!
