Sounds like you have the entire Magic Circle library in your spare bedroom. As a fellow magician I'm willing to offer to store all these items for you :D

Apart from books, my magic would fit into the pockets of my jacket. I will keep it that way.

Except for the card collection and books, I can fit all my stuff including dvd's into two dresser drawers with room to spare. And the cards I'm getting ready to part with as well.

I'm not actually too bad, other than a few book shelves of various books, I've only really got a handful of props that I actually use. All the rest of the stuff that I've bought over the years has only been fairly small and tends to fit into a couple of boxes that live in the loft.

Yeah I started my collection with small item like cards and coins,, that could be easy put in a small shoe box. Then it just got out of control after a few years. :? But to be honest its a really nice collection which is on the house insurance. 8)

Tony B & Bmat You both are RARE creatures--nearly extinct-amongst today's magicians.

The amount of magic that comes out daily is verging on the obscene. There is SO much stuff on offer it must make magicians WANT to buy it.
In the old days--here we go again!!-- we had a much more sensible output and so we all HAD TO THINK before buying.
Now, younger magicians in particular, feel they ought to have 'the latest', OFTEN without any thought or regard of whether it suits them, their style or their Act!

I never had more than 500 props!!! Now thanks to my son wanting to be a pro magician,my closest friend who is a pro magician& sales at our Magic Club, that amount is reduced to about 30 items.
My passion has always, since childhood--books. And thanks to the two in my last sentence these have gone down from 800 to about 250.

There are 250 video tapes on the 24 book shelves--of which onky 30 are bought--the rest from TV over the years.
DVDS--brilliant for storage but rarely bought any. Probably about 30.
With a video tape I can whiz through to where I want quickly and equally wind back quickly to the spot I want.

But books first. I remember Arturo Bracchetti saying something I have always advocated-- Books make you think--and often make you think creatively.
Again like the video tapes I have always said--it is easier to turn back 1 oe 2 pages of a book to recheck than to go back on a DVD.

I once hosted an evening , in the 90's, at my Magic Club. Its title- 'Tricks From My Cupboard I have Never Used!'.
They turned up with mountains of unused props!
After 2 1/2. hous we had to stop the demonstrations and in most cases, the simple showing of the props. If we hadn't we would have been still there today!!

So gentlemen--have an Annual Clear Out. The things you have never or will never use, sell them, give them to a magician who can't afford many props, to a young magician OR bin them. Keep your wives and mother happy!
Failing that send them to Mr. Invisible--if you can find him!!!

AND if you have ANYTHING that is VALUABLE--a Real Collector's item for instance--make sure its disposal is listed in your Will. Otherwise it most certainly will end up in the trash can!
