razor blade and thread trick

Postby tonys1079 » Feb 3rd, '12, 01:00

Does anybody know of a uk magic shop online that sells the razor blades and thread illusion, I can do the needles and thread illusion but dont want to assume it works the same. I've seen it advertised on the net but only on u.s. sites and one other forum i looked at who were talking about it and there seems to be a gimmick and it comes with the razor blades all ready and now im not so certain that they are just normal razor blades that have been dulled. Can anybody help me please it would be much appreciated. Thank you. Tony

It is in The Classic Secrets Of Magic by Bruce Elliott. Best to look there first before spending money on gimmicks.

Pretty sure Ian Kendall has a video about it on his virtual sessions. Can't check just now, so I could be wrong...

my mate/Mentor has Unreleased Work on the 'Razor Blades,

not that it's helpful if it's unpublished, just passing information,

George Kovari sells a very easy, practical version of the razor blades.

I have a 45 minute video which teaches my routine in quite some detail. It's also available as a standalone download.

Potassy has the best presentation. As for method I don't really know the best since it is a trick I have never done. There is a method described in "Marvels of Mystery" by John Booth as well as the Potassy book and DVDs. My friend Peter Snow the street magician makes a masterpiece out of this trick.

I believe Davenports still sell their version. In their last catalogue it was £25

Mike Danata had a version with a stand.

And I think--only think--Magic Box in Newcastle had it.

Annemann published his version The Great East India Mystery: which only uses a handkerchief, glass of water and blades. OR was it NEEDLES?
Came across it in one of my books the other evening but--Ouch--cannot remember which book. When my memory returns I will add it here

Tarbell has it in Tarbell 4 page 103 & 108 plus a John Booth suggestion on page 111

John Booth has it in The John Booth Classics (Supreme) page 102 (originally in his Marvels of Mystery)

In Hugards Magic Monthy there is 'South Of The Border--The Street Performer's Blades Vol 13 page 416 and Vol. 14 page 442

I have a lovely simple version on file from an old Sphinx

There used to be a Vest Pocket version with a sort of small wallet

I am almost 100% sure it was Needles . When i get in , within a couple of hours, i will look in showman, just to verify.

I have the Kovari one by the way. The ditch is a natural one, and the load is clean, with no extra items. Just blades, a large cotton reel, and a glass with some "Red Wine" in :)
I also find that the specialy made stainless blades dont feel awkward in the mouth.

Jon Riggs has a version and if you find a copy of Geek magic there is a good version on there.

There is a good method ( James Koloctron) in an old copy of The Sphinx. Have it on file but alas not which issue.
Also in My Kind Of Magic by Alan Shaxon, page 53 there is a great idea on easy loading
In the Linking Ring magazine January 2011 is another good method and he uses a stand too.

and in Bruce Elliotts' wonderful, 'Classic Secrets Of Magic' there is a whole chapter on the blades,
