Card table an essential?

Postby magicbob123 » Feb 22nd, '12, 21:49

Just wondering would a card table/mat be considered an essential/reccomended item for around the house? Ive got a table I can practice at but its a bit of a make do kinda job.

I'm not much of a card man but I'd suggest practise in different areas and different surfaces and even no surface at all. I don't think you need a card table.

I find a card table very useful. It is a great place to leave my whisky when I am watching television, or reading a good book.

You can pick up a folding table from discount stores such as B&M Bargains for about £6 to £8. It's not essential to have one but it comes in handy if you are planning to do cups and balls or card tricks with a lot of dealing. I've started avoiding tricks that need a table so I can do my stuff when strolling, allowing me to perform in more situations (not that I perform much at the mo).

Regardless of the surface I always use a close-up mat. That way I can perform in a consistant way on any surface, and know that I won't be worried by the texture of the surface or by spilt beer or sticky surfaces. The cushioning of the mat allows me to press a corner of a card into the mat to lift the other corner. Something I can't do on a hard wooden surface.

...Which is why I use a cheap mousemat.
