Very highly-recommended reading, Sam, especially if you're in any way interested in propless mentalism (rumour has it that he's got his NM volumes on sale at half-price at the moment, too  )

why what will Mr Tompson say? iv never read his books thou iv heard good things!

Well, he might say that they're not lectures that seem to be trying to put people off mentalism, or massive reading lists that seem to be trying to put people off mentalism, or even free exposures of cold reading. He might say that they contain sentiments like: "Go on, pick up the phone. Call a friend. Ask him to go to a random book or magazine. Ask him to select a word. Tell him what it is and then laugh when you hear his shocked response." :D

Yes. I had a lot of input from serious full time performers for the first one to help fill it full of subtleties.

I use ideas from Jon's books all the time, it does take a little bit of practice to use psy forces, to understand how to phrase things and the intonation to use when forcing but Jon does cover most of this and its a great fun learning experience.

Slipping back to the o.p for a second, the only real difference between stage mentalism, and any other kind of mentalism, is the scale of the reveal.
Anylize any of Derrens grand closing routines, and you will quickly see that they are just scalled up close up effects.
The other thing that seems to be popular at the moment, is the way spectators are chosen, by throwing assorted junk out for somebody to catch.
Ive never been a huge fan of this. But many are.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
