Ive got a show this tuesday, and have ordered "the worlds greatest magic, torn and restored newspaper" DVD (hope it turns up intime). The shop told me that I dont need any gimmiks with it, but a friend has said that I do. Can someone please tell me if it's just clever placing of papers, or do I need something metal to hold it all togeather?

There are 5 versions of the trick on the dvd. You don't need any gimmicks. I will PM what you need but it's not much. I'ts a very good DVD.

Thanks lots. I'm really wound up over tuesdays show (for the first time ever I have to do "real" magic, and not tommy cooper stuff) and thats a wieght off my mind.

Some versions of Torn And Restored Newspaper require you to make a gimmick, other versions don't. The Patrick Page method, the Ten Second Paper Tear, takes approximately 10 seconds to set up and my understanding is it is the least complicated newspaper tear, but like all the newspaper tears it takes quite a bit of work and rework to learn the moves smoothly and naturally. However I don't know what version is in the DVD you speak of, but whatever method I think you need to put quite a bit of work into learning it so that it looks natural.

Just to add after reading the Review of the DVD that is posted above, Page's method is an instant restoration done with a flick of the wrist. The ones on the DVD appear to require unfolding.

Yes, they all require unfolding but this can be a good thing. Although the instant restoration does look good there is also something magical about slowly unfolding the paper and the spec sees it gets bigger and bigger until it is restored.

I seriously think your pushing it if you think your going to be any where good enough on Tuesday, to show what ever version your going for , to an audience.
The No tear papper tear might of been the better option, since it's mechanical.
you just put pieces of torn paper in your hand, and flick.. they are restored.
Same effect..... much more self working.

The one I like the best is the Richard Osterlind paper tear. You actually have the newspaper signed before you tear it and then when it is restored hand it back to the spectator still signed. It does baffle the audience very much indeed and I have found very strong reactions from it. I am convinced that the reason for the good reaction is the fact that the paper is signed.

wow, so many diffrent types of torn and restore. My dvd still hasnt arrived yet, so maybe I wont use it.
If it arrives tomorrow then I'll go for it. I'm lucky as not only am I a fast learner, but my eldest girl (aged 7) is the hardest audiance ever. you cant distrect her with misdirection, or dazzel her with showmanship (she's used to all that). If I can fool her on monday, then I know its ready for even the most sharp eyed of punters

You had better get an easy method if you have to do it by Monday.
