Elastic Bands

Postby Jing » Mar 13th, '12, 21:05

Anyone know where I can get coloured elastic bands of a decent size, here in the UK?

I used to get a box from wilkos, and they were fine, but the ones they have now are a plastic-y type and they break far too easily.

Size 19 is what I hear, but not sure what that is. I guess that's what I want, but not brown, I would like reds and greens and blues and yellows, etc...

Thanks!

Hobbycraft, Staples, The Range, Rymans - any craft or stationary store, really...

Have you tried Google?

I got a big bag of them from Staples recently, perfect size for the normal rubber band tricks. There were coloured ones too but they were too small, not sure if they make bigger ones and just didn't have them in stock or not.

The ideal size depends on the routine.

For most general uses there's a bag from staples which I am using which are all beige but are the ideal size for everything on Hansen Chen's Touch and 90% of Band Shark.

They also do a bag of assorted sizes and colours which as well as having different colours also contains big thick bands (For Joint Venture, the only effect I know which uses them) and smaller bands for things like instant separation.

All of these bands are also rubber, rather than silicone, which makes them stretch more and grip better. The smaller bands in the assorted pack are round in shape, which combined with the grippiness and stretchiness makes them really good for the boomerang band.

None of the bands in the assorted colour set are the ideal size of the beige ones and when I asked I was told that they didn't do the full range in multicolours, but they do have some large enough for a few effects like most linking band effects (which benefit from different colours) and colour separation.

I mostly just work with beige bands anyway these days for everything other than Joint Venture.

Size 19 is the USA system of sizing rubber bands, Staples also use this numbering but, as far as I can remember, they were the usual beige coloured bands.

Follow a postman around. They tend to drop them on the street and in front gardens with alarming regularity.

Thanks Stacey, I think the ones I have right now are Silicone - too snappy.

I'll pop to Staples then, and get some coloured and some larger ones.

Be nice to have the coloured ones in the right sizes, so I'll keep my eye out for them still.
