It's been over a week that I sent an email to the Blackpool organizers.
No reply.
No acknowledgement of reception. Nothing.
That's a disgrace.

I got accused of shoplifting by them. It took them about six years to apologise. Don't hold your breath.

:!:
oh my... I think it takes so little effort to apologise or even maybe explain why you disagree... But that shows that they are not decent.
:(
I know a couple of years ago, some guy got banned from the convention for a reason that I do not know... He came back the following year putting stickers of Lever with a hitler's moustache...
I mean ok, that was a bit extreme, but that shows that they are pissing /upsetting people off... All of that could so easily be avoided...
it is very sad...

Just had this posted to my FB Fan page...
"nice comments we are all on the look out for but unfortunately we don't always get them. ie a compere for the magic convention in blackpool 2011. God Blackpool? Magic convention? I can't think of anything i'd like less to spend my time on. I hate racism and predudice as you obviously do with your comments about george on talkmagic.com so I'm sure it's pure coincidence then that after spending 10 years in the "entertainment biz" the most conceited, bigoted, male (another coincidence I'm sure??) chauvinist, drab.....people I have ever met have all been...you guessed it...magicians. keep up the good work you! I just hope you don't get too "close up" to me ever"

My reply...
"WTF? If you don't like magic or magicians, why are you visiting a magic forum, and posting on my page? You hate prejudice, but just insulted me and all magicians. Way to stick up for the entertainment business (not)."

and her reply...
"Saying that I wasn't "prejudice" and so there for it was obviously was a "coincidence" was an ironic joke but obviously you didnt get that joke either. Look, I went searching for my dad (George King) on the net and the very first thing I found was a forum slagging him off like mad. Although I wasn't at the show I know his act and that no matter what you think all entertainment is about different tastes. My favourite comedy is miles away from my dad with people like bill hicks on the list but I still know that if he was not worthy of standing on that stage without being bood off then he wouldnt have made a living out of it for 30 years. I have never been on the web making comments like this before its so out of character but you really made me mad. Everybody has the right to their own opinion but if it's so cruel then why shove it in peopes faces? It reminded me of bullying letters of school kids. Imagine how you would have felt if that was about you. Right I shall leave you alone now. I'm done!"

Just posting it here for completeness and because I'm deleting it from my fan page, but how ridiculous?!
Just for the record I still don't support racist (or c*** (not the best) comedy).
Please feel free to kick me off stage, if I'm ever ill-prepared for a show.

Whew - some people just can't move on can they?!

At the risk of stirring up the hornet's nest, unlike your correspondent I was at that show and George's material was well out of order for that occasion. Whist I have no doubt that George is a very funny guy and his audiences in Spain and on some cruise ships will absolutely love his stuff, making lewd suggestions to the Lady Mayoress of Blackpool really wasn't very funny. I won't specify which remarks they were but as you probably know, George uses gardening as a euphemism for sex so phrases such as ‘trimming your bush’ take on a meaning hitherto unknown on Gardeners’ Question Time!
Apart from that, even though it was clear to everyone in the theatre that the material wasn’t going well, George insisted on ploughing a deeper furrow with it at a time when he could have just cracked a few jokes and introduced the next act which is what he was paid to do. His main ‘crime’ was not taking note of the audience reaction and not changing his material to suit.

Your correspondent seems to be similarly offensive in making sweeping remarks about magicians, sadly it shows how ill informed she actually is. More to be pitied than anything else…..

She obviously loves her father. No matter what you think of his act there is something quite beautiful about that.

As it's now over 12 months since these events, I think we ought to leave George to get on with his life.
