Not hands off, but in the spectator's eyes, the Berglas method looks like...people call out numbers...you openly write them on a board...add them up..it's the day's date, or whatever number you like.

This is a redundant post though because it's in the original Berglas book, which I imagine you haven't got!

What methods are you already familiar with?

I love Ed Fowlers method, been in print in a few John Riggs books and is on Ed's DVD. Uses a pad but the specs do all the writing and adding and can check their own numbers.

i like it Reverend Tristan. i will look it up.

the reason why id perfer something thats not pad is cos subltely i want to introduce a book ("as something to lean on") but i'll become important later for a different trick.

but i guess if it looked like a flimsy pad something to lean could also make sence!?

thanks you Rev

It depends on what exactly you want to do with it. Ed's method is nice, I've also used Banachek's psychic folio (there's also a version on his PSI series DVD) for this. You could use a matrix force to generate the numbers or if you want it to be totally hands off and free choice and depending on how you want to reveal, a certain little Indian holy man might prove useful ;).

You hand somebody a calculator, and then take out a small opaque envelope, clearly sealed on all sides. You get audience members to shout out several numbers, which the person with the calculator totals. You hand the envelope to anybody in the audience who opens it and confirms your prediction matches.

Super simple, seemingly hands off...no switches etc, looks very clean. Not always necessary to over complicate.

Arn't all add a number routines hands off?
in a standard routine with any one of the pads, you hand spectators 1,2,&3 the pad. you then pass or throw it to spectator 4 doing the dirty work in that second.

I know thats the case with me, and ive been playing about with many different pads over the years.
I guess what I am saying is, Its more to do with the presentation, than the prop.
:)
( Cant believe that this is the second time i've said that in 24 hours)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I use an 'out-to-lunch' for close-up add a number.

There are non-mechanical methods in Thirteen Steps and Hugard's "Modern Magic Manual".

If I were going to do this, which is most unlikely, I'd use a Mind Spy or Himber wallet.

my friend just offered me the idea of using the calulater as the forcing item ie toxic force. but im not sure one silp and a spec could cos you the routine surely?

is there a nice clipboard that opens up (specs write numbers) close up as passes to spec to add up (closes so evil magician doesnt spot any thing) then in that movement the switch of numbers is done. cos thats all i guess i need a switch of numbers......hmmm? but how to acheive this VERY cleanly!

ps sorry thinking out loud!!! :D

Check Banachek's board that I mentioned in my earlier post...
