I agree completely Lenoir... Performing is the thing!
I'm just trying to get other ideas as to how to do things...
Strong Magic has made me much more self critical about how I perform, and from Alchemical Tools, I'm really trying to cut down the number of tricks for now and make just a few as strong as I can! I guess it's all part of experimenting and finding my magical feet and direction!
Maybe go for the old cliche of taking one routine and performing 100 times...at the end of it, you'll have an improved routine, a routine you know perfectly, your presentational skills will be a lot better and you'll be a lot more confident in that performing ability.
"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.
Well I'm not sure if it's a "key" book on magic or performing, but if you're after your next great read (assuming that you've not done it before) I highly recommend Drawing Room Deceptions by Guy Hollingworth. It's got to be one of my favourite magic books not only for it's content but also just for the read.
Pick up something on acting, voice training, or public speaking. Or anything by Gene Parrot on stand-up comedy. Or Jay Sankey, Zen and the Art of Stand-Up Comedy. Or The Bible of Stand-up Comedy.
