My Psychological force?

Postby Danny Jay » Apr 3rd, '12, 15:29

Greetings ladies and gentlemen,

Was thinking up some ideas in a bar today (classy) and had a little go at writing a psychological force.. but before I go and make a nitwit of myself, I just wanna ask if I've written it along the right lines.

the forced word is: "Bed"

I would like you to imagine it is a sunday morning and you are laying in your dream home.

I want you to begin to imagine a peace of furniture, nothing entiredly obvious, like a table, or a chair. As those two could even be guessed in your sleep.

Instead, I want you to quite comfortably allow it to drift into your mind, as if someone is lifting a duvet from in-front of your eyes.

I would add "Comfy dream home"
imagine a peace of furniture you feel a connection with
and the duvet right at the end seems very obvious.

just my observations, I know nothing

Although, I must say, "comfy" immediately bring up to my mind Monty Python's "Spanish Inquisition" skit and the terrible comfy chair...

Have you read naked mentalism? You might find some useful information there in terms of forcing a piece of furniture.

I'm just starting out getting into Mentalism so I can't really help you with the wording. I will say though the duvet bit doesn't sound right to me. 'cover' maybe?

Keep us posted how you get on with it please.

Shaun.

I'm no expert at this sort of thing, but it sounds good to me apart from the duvet bit. My advice is go out and try it and have a thumb writer to get yourself out if trouble if it goes wrong. As jobasha said: naked mentalism might be handy. I can't remember off the top of my head whether there is a furniture bit tho. But it might give ya some clues. You'll probably need 1 and 2, 1 so ya know what the modus operandi is; and 2 for the extra word lists. I can't comment on 3 because I don't have it

Reminds me of one of Derren Brown's "explanations".

^^ This.

@ Danny - Don't forget that what a mentalist says he does is very rarely what he actually does.

Also, the wording come across as a bit convoluted, to me at least. One of the things that appeals to me about these types of force is that they're quick and snappy: "Name a piece of furniture, like a table."

I'd say a better use of a convoluted script like this would be to cover multiple outs maybe?

"STARt to look at the symbols on these cards, now I want you to relaX, relaX and close your eyes and let the LINES swirl ROUND and ROUND, before you STARt to let an image of one of the symbols develop. Imagine it printing LINE by LINE like a faX, coming STRAIGHT out, a BOLD, CRISP image in your mind."

You can then draw their attention to specific parts of the script and ignore other parts depending on their choice and it makes the convoluted wording part of the effect. I don't know, just my thoughts.
