Mikame products

Postby mr invisible » Apr 4th, '12, 13:09

Greetings everyone. I've just purchased 2 more products from Mikame crafts, This brings my total items to 8, was wondering does anybody else own or know about these fine products?. Sadly mikame died in 2010 so most of the products wont be available in the future, hopefully a few will become collectors items. Garry :)

I had one of the dancing canes a few years ago. Sold it on. Awful.

Some Mikame products are very good indeed. The craftsmanship is usually first rate, but sometimes they didn't always work quite as well as they should have!

I own a few pieces, and having been mulling over another item I saw recently. I'd love one of his table tops, johnharrower, but I know I simply wouldn't use it enough to justify the purchase.

I wish I could afford most of his products, but most of them are just too expensive. Garry.

Don't get me wrong, it looked beautiful. Problem being the wood was so light & soft that the thread used was the thinnest i've ever seen plus it was a 2 piece which compromises the balance a little. It cut into the wood like a cheese wire & the thread snapped. I fitted a thicker thread but it still cut into the wood so I tried fitting a tiny piece of card to where it was slicing which kind of work but I didn't feel relaxed when using it. Bought a new Fukai silver cane at Blackpool the following year which is what I started with & had worn it out.
