Houdini The Musical

Postby Mandrake » Jul 16th, '07, 11:13

http://www.houdinithemusical.co.uk/ - I only heard about this last night and tried to get tickets for the Leamington show this week but sadly the show's been cancelled until perhaps later this year. I remember reading something on magicweek.co.uk about the recreation of Kohl & Co's act which would have been a highlight for me. If anyone's seen it or are likely to see it at the later venues, how about a swift Review?

I've spoken to a few magicians who've seen it and they weren't too impressed. Apparently there isn't much magic in it if that's what you're hoping for.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

That's disappointing. The Kohl & Co act is legendary and there were also supposed to be at least three other large illusions included in the show. OK so they're probably all accompanied by frenzied singing but I figured I could ignore that! Cheers for the info, more checking and research needed......

I own an unpublished musical about Houdini on a CD. I hope one day it will come together for public viewing. It has been put together by my old friend Tony Moore who is a brilliant singer/songwriter. He knows a bit about magic too!

I have known Tony for decades and first met him when he was 13 years old at the Bristol Ideal Homes exhibition where I was selling svengali decks. He came to work for me and demonstrated the svengali decks for me in Blackpool and Toronto. He is one of my dearest friends.

He was a member of the Iron Maiden pop group for a short time and then went on to join Cutting Crew who had a hit record "Died in your arms tonight". Tony is the keyboard player on that recording.

If you do a search on Tony you will see plenty of stuff about him and there are videoclips galore. He is a brilliant talent and I love his Houdini musical. I am sure that if it ever comes to fruition it will be the best one out there.

According to www.magicweek.co.uk, the whole tour has been cancelled. No other info at the moment.

magicweek have now reported:
Houdini the Musical - update. Jamie Allan emails: "Just to let you know the Houdini tour is not cancelled just suspended. We found it was too big for the venues we where going into, in most cases the illusions won't even fit though the stage wings. The show has gathered some excellent reviews and we have had a lot of interest from the 'Big Boys' and we are currently in talks to move it into a much larger venue with a much higher profile. We are also currently ironing out a couple of points with the show and having more sets and another major illusion constructed."
