Unbelievable!!

I also didn't realise that those people who were left behind on the ship as she went down.
Who had found air pockets, were crushed to death by the build up of pressure.
One of the best dram docs I have watched in a long time.

OR Mandrake--like the old Indian trick where they throw something into a 'box' filled with water and a duck--not real-- fishes it out.

You could have a card selected--introduce an aquarium--'This is filled with water from the very spot where the Titanic sank!!' 'However--due to the distance it has travelled to get here tonight--it seems to have lost its salt content'.
Sprinkle salt into the aquarium--stir it up so it becomes very misty--SNEAKY!!-- drop the deck of cards in it. Use a fishing line and fish out the chosen card
OR
AS Luis de Matos once did on TV. Throw the deck into a swimming pool and the chosen card floats to the surface.

Copywrite--Only Talk Magic Forum members allowed to use this idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Well and truly rumbled!

Incidentally, the recent 3 part series with Len Goodman on BBC1 was excellent and gave a good perspective of the story - even Violet Jessop was mentioned. On Sunday at 10pm there's another Titanic documentary, this time on ITV1, Voices of the Titanic.

There was quite an interesting programme on National Geographic last night, Titanic - Case Closed which had a look at the reasons why the ice berg wasn't spotted sooner and why a nearby boat didn't recognise the Titanic as the Titanic. It was all down to a mirage apparently, worth keeping an eye out for in case it's repeated.

But in spite of all the excuses that have been drummed up over the years--it was basically HUMAN ERROR in the end.

1. Over confidence re following the normal rule on the number of lifeboats.
2. Why did no one think there would be iceburgs in that area and so mount A MORE THOROUGH WATCH
3. The Captain has been reported, over the years as: the worse for alcolol--asleep in his cabin--on the bridge--ignoring a warning. etc. etc etc. WHO WILL GET AT THE
REAL TRUTH??
4. Other 'facts????' that have come out, again, over the years. Which are fact and which fiction??????

I used to do a school assenbly on 'Coincidence'. And how things do happen and often re happen..(make your own mind up WHY)
In it I mentioned that many years before another boat sank through hitting an iceburg--almost in the same area--& think exactly 100 years before;the captain's name was the same as the Titanic's captain, and the boat was called 'The Titan'.
Cannot verify the details as I sent my son all the old article on this for his Mental Magic.
Then there were other coincidences? in my own life.

Plus the old Kennedy/Lincoln Assasination details first discovered--I think by the late Martin Gardener.
I will COPYthis from my files and POST here in a few minutes. Some of you may not know it.

Could not resist ending the assembly with a Supreme Magic card trick (ESP) which I have often used since in my main lecture. 'Symbol Tric'-?? not sure now of the name.

Supreme had one people, each look at a card. I used the entire 'audience-split into two.

5 cards are shown--the usual ESP symbols on them. As he shows them he drops them on the table.
Then they are gathered up and.
One is selected by the magician--the audience is NOT shown this. Placed on a small wire stand.
A person one side of the audience is shown the cards, face down.
The magician takes one card from the top and places it on the bottom then points to the next card.
If the person wants this--he and his side of the audience is shown it.
If he does NOT want it--the card goes to the bottoim and the next pointed at. All very slowly, till he chooses a card.
The second side of the audience is asked to close theior eyes briefly as he show sie 1 the card.
The the same to the second side of the audience.
On the count of three all the audience is to shout out the sign they saw. It is the same sign.
But 'says the magician--'Coincidentally there is no circle etc. here and showing the cards dropping them, one by one onto the table.
Then the card on the little wire stand is shown.
It is the audience's card!!

A plot that is adaptable to other situations

the boat was called 'The Titan'.
If it's the one I'm thinking of then the book is called 'The Wreck of the Titan or, Futility' by Morgan Robertson. The good news it's available free as a Kindle book on Amazon! Again it explores the huge class and attitude division between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'.

I missed a programme on Discovery last weekend, Titanic The Aftermath which is based on Christopher Ward's book 'And The Band Played On' about subsequent events in the life of the family of Jock Hume, one of the violinists on Titanic. Christopher is Jock's grandson and his book covers the distressing circumstances, family fueds, hoaxes and other lies. One aspect mentioned is the rather callous, but quite usual, action of the agents who employed all musicians on ships whereby, two weeks after the disaster, they sent Jock's father an invoice for the cost of the uniform, brass buttons and sheet music. As all employees were effectively sacked as the boat sank, there would be insufficient wages earned to cover the costs so the families were expected to pay up.

More info at http://www.titanic-band.com

Edit: The programme is repeated this Saturday April 14th at 4pm, channel 520 and follows two other Titanic themed programmes.
