What has re-excited you?

Postby BlakeMore » Apr 15th, '12, 12:32

Sometimes I find myself practicing the same stuff I've been doing for years and not giving it much thought.

Then something new or something I've not seen before comes along and completely re-inspires me and reminds me of my passion for magic.

The latest thing to do this is Lennart Green's TED talk video. Because I didn't know how some stuff was done it really gave me the mystery and wonder back which I had when I first started magic.

What video, book, person or effect has inspired and excited you recently?

Woody Aragon's book inspired me a lot, Derek DelGaudio is the main one though. Classy card magic, very modern without being ridiculous flourishes and it has taken him to great success.

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

Paul Voodini and Anthony Jacquin have showed me the way I want to go. I find that exciting. John Edward also showed me what is possible - though I don't want to go down that road!

Not so much a recent thing, but when I was about twelve I started searching for 'magic' on the internet. Up until that time the only resources I had had regarding it were the books that could be found in local shops and that were handed down to me from older relatives (so there wasn't a lot for me to go on!). Then when I started looking at it on the internet I discovered so many things that amazed me and inspired me to take up magic more seriously again. Specifically, my main inspirations arising from that time were the product trailers on Ellusionist (it was, after all, the first Google result that came up for 'magic'), which opened my eyes to a whole world of conjuring beyond my humble bookshelf. I sometimes wonder if I would ever have got to the stage I am at now without the world wide web.
