Tomo wrote:During Madelon's presentation, I was suddenly struck by the the perfect example of the idea of beginning to build an experience right from the initial cues. A man walks out onto a completely undressed stage with a ghetto blaster and an acoustic guitar. He announces that "I have a tape I want to play you". Before you know where you are, you're in the Tom Tom Club, David Byrne is dancing in a library with a standard lamp, and his suits keep getting bigger. Brilliant.

Agreed Tomo...that film changed my life...I was a student in Philadelphia and we went downtown to see this and came out completely transformed...I can't imagine how fantastic it would have been to see it live...I think Enrique Enriquez is achieving a similar imapct with his Tarology film...imagine using the urban landscape of New York to 'see' the enduring appeal of Tarot imagery...also brilliant!

For Madelon's lecture, we learn how to craft the total experience and to think more deeply and more carefully about the planning, research, and impact for our performances...Nyman's Ghosts has this quality as Madelon noted...

Cheers

Ditto!

I still have to edit down that interview with you for the Menagerie. I'll do that this week.

We've persuaded Lord Freddie Valentine to come to a magicians' meeting? Blimey, miracles can still happen. Looking forward to meeting you, Freddie, as I have some wonderful ideas for magic square routines to share with you.

(Only part of the last sentence is true.)

It's another good line-up for November, in general.

Thanks for the event notes, Todd. I was thinking about the meeting the next day, and how we had a very informative day of lectures, with almost nothing in the way of tricks.

Dale has twisted my arm and given me a Chinese burn. I'm really looking forward to meeting you! I have a great magic square routine, you fill the boxes in with letters and add a planchette! It's going to be a great day.

If I can find a way of fitting yodelling into a seance setting......

Dale wanted us to dress up as Jedward and come on singing 'Ghostbusters' but I told him that it would be a step too far. He's sulking now.

My point was referring to Lord Freddie's (entirely understandable, in my opinion) aversion to magic conventions and clubs. I was sure you had done a lot of work too. Mainly of the Chinese burn variety.

And when you add all the boxes together it makes an evening of spooky fun?

I see I was right about the Chinese burns...
