Bushwhacker

Postby katrielalex » Jul 3rd, '05, 22:31

Hi all!

My latest offering is a Paul Harris effect called Bushwhacker. Well, it's more of a 5-second trick than an effect, but it's still fun :)

Nice little effect, but abit easyer to work out than voodoo zone! maybe you could use then both as part of a routine?

Good stuff!

Is it an impromptu effect?

Can't be impromptu. In fact, it's kind of easy to figure out. But, you should also add to your routine a way to show all 3 cards as "normal". Add some fake count or something, and show them all normall.

Hi Kati

I've played with this myself and wonder how you'd work this into a routine in practice. I've read the description in Art of Astonishment about how the cards are set up and, whilst I managed, I found it difficult to follow. I suspect that if I performed it close up, I would be caught out.

Any ideas - or from anyone else, for that matter?

No, it is impromptu. It can be done with most cards, and the cards can be borrowed, no setup.

rcarlsen: no gimmicks!

Hmm, well, the version of this, which I once did, was gimmicked. That of course makes it a little bit more interesting.

I would have thought 1 card need some preperation, so I would class that as a gimmick! :)

The version in Art of Astonishment uses normal cards - although the design may cause concern. As I implied earlier, I found it difficult to get the setup right although I guess it's down to practice. In Kati's video, he held the cards very firmly and, when you've read Art of Astonishment, it's obvious why this is necessary.

I saw a clip of a handling from scratch on magicvideodepot and have searched elsewhere but other clips have been removed from servers.

This reminds me of a trick on Ammar tapes, called Close-Up Illusion. With the setup of this trick, with minor changes, I would do exactly the same effect. So, I guess your definition of "ungimmicked" is important here. "Close-Up Illusion" doesn't have "gimmicked" cards either, but I would never be able to do it with 3 unprepared cards....

Ungimmicked: the cards are unprepared, borrowed, and anything else.

Most brands work but not all  just to puzzle y'all a bit more.

EDIT: To be even crueler, I'll just say that you seem to have made an assumption about the trick which I never said :).
