Sherlock Holmes makes for a wonderful mould for a mentalist. Much of my character and act is based upon the influences of among others, the great detective himself.

The Sherlock Holmes Book of Magic, now there's a book that I was unaware even existed until this day and one which looks as if it'd be a very good addition to my library. Speaking of which, said book seems to have mysteriously and miraculously fallen from the shelf and landed in my basket while browsing the Amazon Store of Literary Wonders. However could such a thing happen?

So by any chance is there a review for this mentioned book anywhere? The Sherlock Holmes Book of Magic sounds like something I'd be interested in too. If not maybe someone might be kind enough to put one together for the forum.

There are reviews on Amazon. The only other one I've seen, rather more detailed, was in The Linking Ring, September 2000.

There's one review on Amazon. I've just scanned the Linking Ring review and it's attached.

Thank you for that. I've read the reviews on Amazon but it's always good to read a good few. I might just have to wander over there now and order myself a copy.

I expect mine to arrive next week sometime which I'm looking forward to, plus all this talk has got me re-reading A Study in Scarlet again.

"I'm not going to tell you much more of the case, Doctor. You know a conjuror gets no credit when once he has explained his trick, and if I show you too much of my method of working, you will come to the conclusion that I am a very ordinary individual after all."

I feel this is a fitting quote for this site.

Indeed, but interestingly Doyle called it the Science of Deduction in A Study in Scarlet....

By the way, Elliott Black, who contributed a couple of effects to The Sherlock Holmes Book of Magic, bills himself as "The Sherlock Holmes of Thought".

And as a further coincidence, I have just returned from a walking holiday in the New Forest, one of the walks was picked by us as it passed through Minstead so I could pay my respects to Mr Conan-Doyle's grave. A previous payer of respect had left a pipe on the grave!

How many of you think that Sherlock Holmes would be an amazing mentalist/cold reader?
What if you had his powers of observation? :)

P.S. - For those of you who think that S.H. is just a fictional character, google "Joseph Bell". He was the real Sherlock Holmes.

If Sherlock Holmes was a mentalist then he'd take a far more long winded route to solve his crimes, carry around a suitcase full of envelopes and bang on about NLP.
