For me, this is one of Derren Brown's best effects. That may be because it's one of the few I don't have a clue how it's done (along with him training someone to read someone else's mind - truly baffling). It's ok, I'm not about to ask anyone to tell me how this is done. This is really a question about how it's not done. A friend of mine here at work (who has a passing interesting in magic) has said that Derren does possess a photographic memory and suggests this is how he achieves the results he does. Is the button counting something that anyone can perform or do you have to have some kind of special ability? I can think of one way of doing it but doesn't feel particularly elegent.
