The end of two good shows.

it appears that Magicians, & Fool us, have both been axed, and will not return in the new year.

Stupid.... Help my supply teacher is going for a second series, the lab is being shot ( though it looks like that's only a pilot at the moment) Dynamo, marmite of magic, is being pushed like crazy.... but main stream prime time have no faith in the format.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Good to see the Magicians gone. That show was an embarrassment to us all.

Television no longer understands how to present magic. Gone are the days when they could just televise a stage routine or a table trick as entertainment in its own right.

Now they have to present it in a 'format' such as a gameshow or talent contest, or with some supposedly edgy hook. Even though I prefer the style of magic seen on Magicians and Fool Us, I'm glad they're ditching the idea of a formatted show like that but keeping things like Dynamo's program, which simply show magic as magic and that's enough.

Maybe it's like a sine wave and having retreated from gameshow trappings they'll continue to reverse the evolution of TV magic, drop the 'street' part and get back to presenting magic without the music video editing and posturing to camera.

A recent column in Magicseen bemoaned the loss of good old fashiuoned proper magic on TV and, although we'd probably like it, I doubt the general TV audiences would be so welcoming. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that they'd probably welcome re-runs of Crossroads rather than magic shows (not so far fetched, I hear that one of the minor cable channels has actually been checking the possibility of showing the old Crossroads episodes!).

Sadly, many of us involved in Magic were dismissive of both those, and other, magic shows - for good reasons - but if we weren't happy then the general audiences were probably less happy.

Dunno what the answer is other than sod waiting for TV to show magic, let's all go out, find the live touring shows then go see 'em in the flesh!

Both these examples of electromagical theatre were poor at best and I for one will not mourn their passing. There is a great demand for magic from the population and I feel that it is high time that a high quality production, free of celebrities and gimmickery was produced.

Magicians moaned about the shows, now they can moan about them being axed.

When I was a child, relatives would comment that I was a budding David Nixon. Later, as a teenager, I became a budding Paul Daniels. Who's the role model now?

(I never did bud, by the way.)

And Chan Canasta, David Copperfield, and well, pretty much all of them. I think the point is that The Magicians had a format that required the involvement of B (or is that too generous?) to D list celebrities throughout, when perhaps the celebrity should be more like a touch of spice in a meal.

I thought it was announced ages ago that there wouldn't be another series of Fool Us. I really liked this show, although the focus was perhaps wrong. Fortunately, some performers ignored the main idea of the show and gave us their well-rehearsed acts to enjoy, without caring whether or not Penn and Teller would know the method.

Probably some sort of misprint/typo but I received an email from the Applause Store:

19/7/2012 Just ATTEND any of the recordings of LOVE MACHINE (Starts tomorrow) and we'll GUARANTEE tickets to one of ANY of the shows:

    THE X FACTOR LIVE-CELEBRITY JUICE-GOT TO DANCE-TAKE ME OUT-NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS-A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN-THE MILLION POUND DROP-PIERS MORGAN'S LIFE STORIES-BIG BROTHER-BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT-MR & MRS-THE ROB BRYDON SHOW-THE MAGICIANS-Q.I-RED OR BLACK?

If not a typo, wonder who's picked up The Magicians?
