Aza. You MIGHT, in time become the next Bertram of Clacton.
He began his pro career at Clacton in 1923! Success followed and the owner of the Pier built him a theatre--The Children's Theatre.
It held 650 people.
His success was so great in 1938 he was given a larger theatre, still on the Pier. This one held a thousand people.
Like you he began with impromptu performances with his wife, 'Auntie Ruby' assistaing.
Later when the theatre was such a success he engaged pro child performers to swell the 'cast'.
There were 2 shows a day. One in the afternoon for children & one in the evening for Adults. There were always long queues for tickets.
The 1939 terminated his performances but he was asked to perform again after the war.
Sadly the strain of 17 years daily performing, with NEVER a performance missed, had taken its tolland he had to refuse.
I quote from the late Maurice Hurling--the well known ventriloquist--'There is no doubt that, like others before him, he had given his life to the great cause of making other people happy.'
There is a slim book of some 23 pages that he wrote--'Entertaining The Modern Child', published by George Armstrong's 'Magic Wand Publications', in 1956
it contains his philosphy and a number of routines, competitions and ideas for entertaining youngsters. And of course the parents & relatives with them.
Second hand copies do emerge from time to time. BUT NOT from Amazon--they charge twice the price! £12 is a fair price for this booklet.
One of his Vent dialogues was published in Supreme's 'Magigram'-- the ones which were the pocket book size.
Supremem also published 2 of his routines. 1. 'A Letter For The Conjuror' a simple coin vanish in paper with 2 children assisting and 2. 'Disabell'--again with 2 children, a cod comedy 'vanish' of a hand bell. Magic Books BY Post may still have these.
