Making my own gimmick

Postby Aza » Jul 2nd, '12, 11:43

Hi all,

Hope this isn't too much in the realm of exposure, but i need to make my own weighted pulley system.....quite small

It is for an in the box rising card effect

I know what i want to do but no amount of googling is helping and i know i could just buy a rising card trick, but am nowhere near a bricks and mortar shop and hate ordering online!!

Any ideas anyone?

N.B Mods, if this is too much exposure please edit or let me know

Much love

Aza

Whilst you may not want to buy one on-line, to be honest the work that goes into the making of those things would make it awfully impractical to do yourself. I have to say I applaud the idea, most Magi these days seem to get grumpy if the trick they bought involves any more than gluing two bits of paper together, but for this, most of the folks who produce these having been doing so for decades.

I started off with an Elusionist one that broke after about two performances and after a little digging around bought a Marty Martini one that cost about the same but is much better put together and he guarantees it for life. He for instance started making these before I was born.

Thanks Heckler!!

I applaud *anyone* who gets out the craft kit, and makes (or simply makes the attempt to make) their own props; this is how creators are born.

Seriously, the amount of unexpected ideas I've personally come across, through putting items together, is quite astonishing, and - once I'm in that creative mindset - I find things snowball very quickly.

You go for it, Aza - and don't let anyone say, 'it's too difficult'; even if you don't end up with what you intended, you'll begin to flex creative muscles you never knew you had :D

Let us know how you get on!
