Rushie it takes a few days but it's well worth setting up a 'Paypal' account. I don't have the correct credit cards to use either, so I use Paypal instead.

Go to Paypal and have a look. It's well worth considering.

hey, you dont need a credit card, ur debit card will work as a credit card, i use my debit as a credit card all the time and it works fine, you just have to have the money in ur acc ur u will over draw ur acc and have to pay a very lot.

Your not likely to make too many friends by speaking in text speak on this board. No one minds on a mobile but you have a whole keyboard in front of you and you will find the bit of extra time spent typing it properly will pay dividends.

On the contrary, I find that penguinmagic don't accept my debit card (Switch/Maestro). Paypal works for me though!

There are a lot of companies out there who will accept visa debit cards but will not accept the old Switch (now Maestro) cards.

I have asked and they tell me that it's to do with charges from the company and uncertainty over fraud - pretyy weird I would have though but.

I use PayPal for much of my dealings from the web and find it pretty seamless.

We take all these at work and the significant difference is that Switch/Maestro work on a fixed rate of about 50p per transaction regardless of the total value involved. The other methods are charged on a percentage basis and are therefore much more lucrative to the card companies. In other words, the supplier makes less profit therefore has to raise his prices so you end up paying for the card companies 'considerable' profits!

... and to add to the 'PayPal' discussion... you can also nominate a bank account and have the funds automatically withdrawn that way. My nephew uses PayPal this way for his eBay buying/selling.

Therefore, even if your circumstances (age, type of account etc) prevent you from having a 'recognised' debit or credit card (Visa, Delta, Mastercard, Pet-R-Us storecard etc) you can still use a nominated bank account.

I am 99% sure that this is the case, but I will ask him for more info if anyone is interested.

Thanks for all your help with my question. I have a Solo debit card that they don't accept. I have since ordered a copy of Born to Perform Card Magic, paying by cheque. Sorry about stirring up a bit of a hornets nest about the pros & cons of using Paypal. Saying that though, it is a discussion board after all

Ah! The guy at our bank told us that Solo cards somethimes have that problem - not universally accepted etc. In fact, now I've check our lists I think our system excludes them as well!

Yes...that's my problem. I can't get a credit card, so I have to pay with my Solo. And Polar Bird won't accept them

So I use Paypal. shhh...don't tell anyone...I should be 18

You are correct in your assumptions regarding the age and status element.

As long as the account is valid and the sum can be deducted electronically PayPal works.

This is something I hadn't thought of with my kids, I can let them have PayPal as a part of their own financial management,

Wow, I had no idea that my post would reach 40 replies!

The problem with penguin is it has many ripped items. They may not make them, but they sell them. They don't try to stock the originals, they just get whatever version they can. It is also full of very young kids... *shudder*
I only get supplies there, sponges, silks, mats. Usually when you get something there it is a bad version of one that's already out. I personally loathe penguin in certain aspects, but like it in other ones. But, there are much better magic sites on the web.

This Kinda sounds like a certain Magician I've heard so much of. No need to mention any names (ugem cough David cough Blahuhine).
