Does selecting a differently coloured back of cards affect y

Postby magicbob123 » Jul 18th, '12, 10:26

Okay, so no doubt the colour on the back of your cards may have a psycological impact on your petformance in some way, but my thinking was more in terms of say a black backed deck of cards could be better for sleights due to the dazzling effect looking at the back of the cards provide. I am aware that this is the reason that we as conjourers use patterned backs but surely the black and white contrast would provide an even greater effect. However these black backed cards could be harder to conceal in a palm due to this.
I am aware that years of research and thought has probably already gone into such things but I was just wondering. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I like blue bikes. Dunno why. I just do. But for Lawrence's Oracle Deck I always use red.

Well its been a while since ive done any magic because of exams and such but now im freed up ive decided a few new decks are in order and whilst browsing the question just popped into my head. I myself am usually a red and blue man but if there is any benefit I could easily ajust to using a black deck.

I use mostly red backed due to a couple of routines requiring the back of the card to be signed. But I'm not really

I notice John Carey used a EPL deck with a light blue back which was ideal for signing. I'm sure Card Collection used to sell them but I haven't been able to find any on there for a couple of months. Other than that, a card is a card, i use either red or blue as a rule as they're the cheapest and by the end of a night my deck is usually light of a number of cards, dog eared, stolen or sticky from beer so they don't last me that long.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a certain Mr D Brown used red back cards because he felt they stood out more against his green card mat.

I use blue backed cards though.

I have many different coloured backs greens, pinks, browns with different designs on the back. But I never use them when Im doing tricks whether its magicians guilt that I feel they look too gimicky or they do indeed look slightly suspect as they are not standard coloured back (red or blue) as I would call them. I put off palming for a year and a half because I have massive window gaps in my fingers from doing the live long and prosper sign too much as a young trekkie and I would always get caught out with Blue backs but for some reason not so much with red. I have just started using cards with no borders and I can see improvements in my second deals but I wouldn't switch just for that.
