How old?

Postby craigie » Jul 20th, '12, 23:02

My son is 5 months old, how long do you think it will be before he gets my spongeball routine? Just now he just stares at me as if im daft. Good practice though.

my ex always hated sponge balls....but then again it's part of the reason she's my ex! lol

and to be fair Craigie i perform for my nephew and godson who are 2 and 18 months respectively and they stare at me as if I'm daft too....so maybe a while, or maybe it's my performance lol

Much love

My girls are 16 months old and although I don't think that they really know what's going on, they both sit mesmerised by my sponge bunnies. Yazmina's favourite toy is my giant sponge bunny (or spunbun, as she calls it).

My eldest Son is 2 1/2 and loves a good coin vanish. I suppose he quite enjoys the average coin vanishes that I do too!

He loves when I make things vanish. It's just down to when the child gets a grasp of what is supposed to happen.

I may have been born yesterday but I stayed up all night.

When I first went to College for Teaching Drama--the popular movement to interest VERY young children( as in a pram) was to put your hands together-thumbs on the inside together--go in FAIRLY CLOSE but not near enough to scare the little mites. Open your hands and say (not too loud) Boo!
This was advocated, as the beginning of Drama to a child, by the legendary Peter Slade--one of the pioneers of Child Drama. It does get the child's attention.

I would think in all your cases--a soft hand puppet would be much more use than a sponge ball routine--and safer for the sponge balls!

Craige: Remember they like Pandas, Rabbits, Teddy Bears, dogs. Even Sooty or Sweep.
Mine were specially made by one of my Drama Students, years ago--2 Hamsters--with Squeaks.
Do not forget the Squeaks.

I've been practising what I can on my 4 and 2 year olds, Centre tear impresses the 4 year old, as does a good coin vanish or guessing a card he picked. 2 year old is more impressed with a slice of toast.

Can anyone suggest good places to practice mentalism on people, e.g. pubs, shops etc

thanks,

Seamagu

Nice one Seamagu, I usually practice mentalism if im out for dinner as like an
After dinner entertainment. The problem I have found with doing mentalism in pubs are that people have had a bevvy so there attention isnt the greatest and its usually to loud to get your point across. Maybe catch people on the ciggy break
