It just looks like yet another version of the Sybil flourish. It isn't a shuffle though, just some fancy card juggling.

Basically its just a flash shuffle. The amount of time it would take you to learn this flourish, you may as well learn a neat card trick instead.. Regards Garry :)

:D - That's what I do when anyone asks a question about flourishing on this forum. People help, but they've always got to drop in a little 'spend your time more wisely' comment, even though it was a question, not a request for advice. Its your time sir, you do with it what you please. And I fancy the Dynamo shuffle thing is actually a Daniel Madison flourish as he uses his chin in the same manner. Its probably on Madison's Lethal DVD. Good luck with it.

He did the shuffle, and the hot shot thing as part of his performance in this years E.M.C.
Full power to the guy for performing to that crowd.. but the sound of 33 of the worlds greatest ever magicians saying "meh" was unique to say the least.:)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Have you seen the reactions dynamo gets when he does it? Either nobody is really impressed or people are expecting it to be part of an amazing trick.

I spent ages learning false cuts like the 190 helix, I used it for about 2 weeks till I realised the time spent isnt equal to or greater than the reaction.

That said the practice done wonders for my Dexterity and handling in other sleights and effects.

If you do want to learn but just searched youtube as there is a lot of tutorials from XCM guys who have made up their own pretty cool cuts.

FYI Flourishing is not a waste of time.

How you spend your time is up to you. Some of the flourishes I perform get as good a reaction as the tricks.
Magicians baffle, amuse and IMPRESS.

A juggler is incredibly impressive - so is a fantastic flourisher.

There is always space fr a flourish. I would suggest learning a sybil cut, then you have a good foundation for handling cards through a complex cut.

I love learning flourishes, a lot of people do. It's a whole art form in its self.

We've discussed this so many times before and it's clear that flourishing is not only skilful and clever but there are many thousands of people working hard to perfect and dazzle their audiences. However, where the opinions differ is whether it's magic or not.

Juggling, ventriloquism, balloon modelling and skills like that are similarly entertaining and well worth doing but few of their supporters would argue that they're magic in terms of conjuring, illusion and so on.

The best way to work this is to agree to differ, if someone doesn't like flourishes then don't do 'em and don't watch 'em but if you do like flourishes then let nobody try to deter you. If you're a professional performer you'll soon find out which of your skills are good enough to generate an income and anything which doesn't earn a crust can be continued as a spare time hobby.

Agree with the above, but theres no argument that it is important to magic for me.

I look at it like this (maybe this might be contentious?);

When I perform i spend a great deal of effort making sure I dress right. Smart shoes, and slick attire. Hair neat, neatly shaven. I make sure I smell right - not too overpowing but not smelly!

In the same way, I address my magic like this. I flourish where it is suitable. It makes my card and coin magic look sharp, slick, and a step above the rest. Theres no need to over-do this.. same reason you shouldn't douse yourself in aftershave - but I do think being able to add some flourish is crucial to stand out.

Oftentimes people ask me about a flourish or are particularly interested, so I show them something more impressive.

Also, lets no forget, a lot of good flourishes have effects build in.. aces productions, card revelations - card controls, colour changes etc... They can be a good climax to a trick.

So is flourishing magic? Perhaps not standalone, but its certainly a good embellishment, just like good shoes are.

I find the people that turn their noses up at it are magicians only, and typically, magicians without the dexterity to pull it off themselves. Never has a lay person gone 'eurgh, look at him doing kickass stuff with cards, what a loser!'.

People love flying cards.

Agree to disagree for sure, as some magicians embellish with humour, some with a certain style of performance (mentalism, mysterious, dramatic) so for these guys, flourishing is replaced with their more honed skill areas, and is less necessary.

My style is slick corporate packages, and flourishing suits that.

Hope this helps
