Books available on kindle

Postby seamagu » Aug 15th, '12, 22:06

Hi Everyone,

So far all my magic reading material has been in ebook format (except for 13 steps).

I was just wondering why there is such a small amount of magic/mentalism books available on the kindle website. I don't mind buying them and transferring them from other websites but if you get them off amazon they are optimised for the kindle and it is a really really handy way of buying them (they are also automatically on my phone for quick reference aswell if bought through the kindle website).

Some of the books I bought on the kindle website include:
impromptu mentalism
bobo coin magic
rrtcm
james bond cold reading

Maybe it has something to do with not publishing secrets to the masses, or maybe it has to do with royalties (I prefer the former explanation). But if you have the rights to a book then you can self publish on amazon basically for free.

I'm waiting on a few books to come out on the kindle such as Julian Moore's post it book and any highly recommended ones on mentalism.

If anyone knows of any other good mentalism books available on the kindle let me know :-)

Thanks,

Sea.

Julian Moore is in the process of converting all his books to KIndle format but you can use a program called Calibre to convert many other documents to Mobi/Kindle as well as several other formats - Google will find Calibre for you very swiftly.

Thanks Mandrake,

I'll look into that. Buying off the amazon website has other benefits such as being able to sync the book across a few devices. If I read Bobo at home on my kindle, I can pick up where I left off on my phone if I have a few minutes to spare while I am out and about. Also, I think the DRM is quite good from an authors perspective.

Good to hear Julian Moore's stuff is being moved onto kindle, I'll deffo be picking up a few more of his books when that happens.

thanks,

Sea.

You have a kindle email address and you can send a .pdf to your kindle email address and have them convert it into Kindle format for free:

1.Attach your document to a new e-mail or forward an existing e-mail that has a document attached. A subject is not necessary in the e-mail. If your document is a PDF and you want to convert PDF to the Kindle format then simply add "convert" in the subject line of the e-mail.

More detail on how this works here.

Wow. That's pretty cool. I didn't realise that. Top tech tip.

All of Julian's material is worth getting and a bargain on kindle currently. Mark Lewis has an introduction to stage hypnosis that is good value for kindle. A number of other books have been transferred to kindle format such as Joshua Jay's complete course, but been put off as the illustrations will be shrunk so much for kindle.

While it's worth trying to convert pdfs to Kindle format it may not work very well. I have a Sony Reader and generally find that pdfs converted with Calibre get rather messed up when they're converted to epub; I'm better off reading them in pdf (and some of them don't work well like that either). The Calibre user guide comments that pdf is the worst possible format for conversion.

Yes, Calibre does have limitations and if you want the same document in Kindle and phone you'd have to copy them across to each device individually. There'd be no synchronisation, unfortunately. The titles and page breaks aren't always in the right places but I got used to that very quickly. Images may not be handled too well either but most of the stuff I've converted is text only.

Just picked up Mark Lewis' book on stage hypnosis, I have reality is plastic (Haven't attempted hypnosis yet but have read it a few times and taken notes) so this should be interesting.

thanks,

Sea.

Here's an article about how to read PDF files on a Kindle 3, if that helps: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/32987/ho ... version-3/
