Snap Change

Postby Blade Master » Jun 29th, '05, 05:12

This affect can be found on Penguin @ http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=640

In case you were wondering, yes, I did check the Review Index and found nothing. Anyway, after whaching the demo video about 20 times andd rewinding and replaying at slow motion I'm pretty sure I've already got it figured. But I have to congradulate Ed Marlo and JC Wagner for creating such a viualy stunning trick!! :D I mean thats pretty freaken fast for a card change. If anyone has any input feel free.

.... can't believe that PM really sells this as a standalone trick.

Yeah, I think it's pretty sad they packaged that as a standalone effect. And it's sold for $6, no less!!

Pyro Penetraton - They took the matchstick penetration (which you can find in hundreds of beginner's books) and charge you $6 to learn it!!!

Don't get me wrong, they have some really powerful instant downloads - but things like that are a rip-off.

Maybe three?!

No seriously, there are almost no good IDs on PM. It's just a way of making money. I mean, some of them are just c*** (not the best)!

No, they're not the BEST tricks out there - but some of them are strong.

For a newcomer, some of the ID's are helpful. A good deal of them teach useful sleights. Granted, I would recommend a book or DVD over individual downloads - but some people prefer to learn that way.

I think the appealing thing about ID's, is its a there and then basis. I think they specifically target sufferers of CUPS, sub-conciously. (me  )

As for snap change, its a great sleight, but no reason for doing it alone, great for a find the card routine, oops I slipped up, no wait a minute.... BAM kinda thing

A great DvD set to invest in, in my opinion is Jeff McBrides, Art of Card Manipulation. It covers this move, but in a way i feel with less angle problems if you do it fast enough, as well as hundreds of palms, fans, vanishes appearances. Its something you can refer to again and again

Type it in the search, and I'm sure I reviewed it a few months ago. Available from magictricks.co.uk with next day delivery :)

Snap change is NOT a trick, it's a move, that should be used in well suited situations...

FOR ...etc

Message from Mods:

Ben - you've been here on TM long enough under one name or another to know that this sort of post simply isn't acceptable. If you have a point to make then do it carefully, reasonably and courteously otherwise we’ll end up having to do the Bajleben thing all over again – OK?

Mianon no need mate. Calm down and don't make yourself look like a fool.

...and quit with the CAPITALS - it's unpleasant to look at and to read.

Grow up a bit, yeah?

Hi Mianon,

Have the pills started wearing off :-) I have days like that too but the doctor says I'm getting better (he has to or I'll hit hitm!). There's no need to shout mate, we're all bloody stupid, not DEAF!

My problem with this is that as Rune so rightly says, the snap change is a move not a trick in itslef. It makes agreat finale when used with the right trick but it's not only (in my opinion) not a standalone and it has a fairly limited use in terms of viewing angles and the like.

It looks so cool on video where the viewing angle is head on but move five degrees either side of centre and whoosh, trick gone!

ID's are great if you don't have the book (or perhaps can't read) but add up the price of a few and then explain why you havent visited 'The Works' and spent £4.95 on Einhorn's 'The Art of Magic'?

BTW - as someone with a background in making videos, I say that it must have cost millions to make the video of the Snap Change (Polish Szlotky that is!) - The video would have cost me nothing other than the time taken to do the trick and save it in QT, mpeg, AVI or some other standard. i.e. low cost high returns, think that's called being in business:-)
