It's war!

Postby Grimshaw » Aug 20th, '12, 16:02

What's all this about then?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv7nHVJTbGQ

Jealousy? Behind the scenes scalping? Self-promotion? Idiocy?

Do we care?

No. But I ask you to watch it anyway.

I found out something interesting a few weeks ago. None of my brothers friends have even heard of Dynamo, despite his advertising being all over London. Apparently the only reason my brother is even aware of Dynamo is because I'm a magician.

If these young London locals have never even heard of Dynamo think of how few people in America have heard of him (most non magician Americans haven't heard of Derren Brown), meanwhile most people in America know Chriss Angel, who has been known to say something along the lines of 'I don't care what people say about me just as long as they're talking about me.' I can't help but think this is Chriss Angel helping Dynamo, most likely on purpose.

I'll start caring if it starts getting 'prestige-y' bring on the mutilations and on stage sabotage. Let's find out who can really walk on water.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Loud mouthed, aggressive, threatening and trying to look big across a huge desk supported by his gang members - sheesh! I used to have a lot of time for Criss but that's just pathetic. OK, so some of the consultants for Dynamo may have also worked for Criss but so what? William Robinson/Chung Ling Soo and many others worked for the big names in magic as assistants then left to join the competitors taking the secrets with them. Then they went back to the original big names taking another's secrets with them. Not exactly the decent way to do things but sadly that's the way it was and still is to a certain extent - see the recent legal actions by Teller over his Shadows effect. I wonder how many of the effects seen on Criss' shows were 'imported' from other acts by his consultants/assistants at the time? This video challenge just backs up many of the bad things said about Criss over the years, including his over inflated ego. If there's a genuine problem, why not do as Teller did and take legal action?

I'm pretty sure at some point in the past he also called out David Blaine and challenged him to a magic showdown. Surprisingly, I don't think David bothered taking him up on it. It seems like it's a Criss Angel thing to bitch about other magicians in the press but I can't decide if he does it for publicity or it's just a sign of insecurity.

Then again, he might be friends with Dynamo and it's a publicity stunt to raise the new guys profile in America in which case I salute the guy for trying to help anothers career.

It probably isn't that though. :(

Ha! I just googled 'Criss Angel challenges David Blaine' to add to my previous post but I instead found this fantastic bit of crazy instead:

Criss Angel is Satan... PROOF!
or possibly just one of his minions... ok on with the "proof"....

1. his name. Criss Angel... Criss = Christ, and then Angel. Christ Angel... a claim only a demon or the Devil himself would make!

2. his trade. magic!! illusion? sure, some of it. but only what he plans to show us to convince us that he is another David Copperfield. truth is, most of his magic is just that! evil magic! very "Anti-Christ" if you ask me.

3. his show. Mind Freak. enough said.

4. his appearance and charm. he has soo many fans, followers even. he is adored and worshiped by many... hm. his dark beauty is unmistakable and he is incredibly at ease in front of the public. they eat him up.

5. his slight "lisp". just as i would imagine a snake would speak over a forked tongue. ah, serpent Criss....

6. evil resides in evil. where his main show is and where he makes most of his money? Las Vegas baby! Sin City. where else would a devil be most comfortable?

7. just got to his website! if you click to get more information about his new show Criss Angel: Believe (hm???) the header is "The Time Has Come For Loyal Worldwide". self explanatory!!

8. imagery. again, i refer to his website http://www.crissangel.com" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank. the first thing you see is Criss, our Demon, floating at the top, arms outstretched looking very deathly and gothic. what better way to deceive than to be so obvious its not even funny? geez, just look at any of his imagery.

9. quotes from his site...

"Criss has been both the #2 and #1 most searched name on Yahoo.com in consecutive weeks"
"Criss Angel's overwhelmingly dominates the internet as his demonstrations have been viewed on YouTube.com a staggering 5 times more frequently than David Blaine and 10 times more frequently than David Copperfield. CrissAngel.com is visited by more unique visitors each month than any magician in internet history. Criss' merchandise sales have exceedingly surpassed any artist of his kind and rival the most influential artists in any music genre today."
"Without a doubt, Criss Angel is single-handedly responsible for magic's most recent resurgence in popular culture."

10. i have no ten but nine was lonely :)

I don't mean to derail the thread but I really felt the need to share this. My favourite is number 5.

There are at least 5 threads on that conspiracy theory site about him but the best surely must be "If Criss Angel is the greatest magician of our generation, why is he in divorce court? 07/12/07"

I'm pretty sure Dynamo is currently in the states. It smells like a PR stunt

I think he's still got his Vegas residency, that show that bombed spectacularly.

To be fair, he apparently listened to his critics and improved it after the first run.

So he's just being the big "I Am" and making empty accusations for publicity. What a cretin.

Alice Cooper can pull off that look, but then again Cooper isn't trying to look younger than he really is.

Saw Alice Cooper last week, his stage magic was well more entertaining than Angels (I'm 100% serious, Alice Coopers Guillotine was well cool)
