A sobering lesson for us all.....

On August 25th, The Sun wrote: Magician’s escape stunt goes wrong

A HAPLESS magician was left in agony after a daring escape trick went wrong.

Dopey Drummond Money-Coutts, 26, was handcuffed and tied to two golf carts — with the aim of freeing himself as the buggies started to drive off in opposite directions.

But the screaming toff suffered severe cuts and bruising as he was dragged along the Tarmac after failing to get loose from one of the ropes.

Last night the trickster, who went to posh school Eton with Princes William and Harry, branded the failed Houdini-style stunt at the prestigious Gleneagles golf course in Perthshire a “disaster”.

Money-Coutts — filming a promotional video for the European Golf tour — said: “The right side of my body is grazed to pieces. There was a lot of blood. I could only get out of the handcuffs and one of the ropes and the driver didn’t realise so I was dragged quite a way.

“It was a success in that I managed to survive it without being totally torn apart.”

Money-Coutts, who had previously performed tricks with European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal, posted pics online of his injuries sustained earlier this week.

Last night he blamed the painful blunder on RAIN. He said: “A series of things went wrong. The weather was the main issue and that meant I couldn’t do it the way I did in rehearsals.”

Such a story comes as no suprise considering that the wizard in question hails from Eton. That institution never did produce the brightest tesla coils.

I know Drum, and have over the years had contact with Eton boys, through their magical society,( one of the oldest in existance ) He is intelegent, kind, generous, and down to earth. He also has an exclusive client list that would make you green with envy.

Ive spoken to him over the last day or so, and I am aware of what went wrong in this stunt.

Rather than unfairly labeling him as some upper class twit, it would be an idea to learn from this.No matter how well planned things are, there is always an element of risk, due to human error.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Isn't there a tradition amongst circus performers, especially the more dangerous acts, that a performer always checks there own 'gear' (tightrope etc) and is ultimately responsible if it goes wrong? It sounds like this magician has done just that and is blaming himself for the failure. Therefore we should show him the respect and sympathy that he deserves and not rush to conclusions about his background etc.

I shall desist from further descussion on this matter but feel I that I should just point out that such occurances are often due to imprudence on behalf of the performer and said performer is not unknown to imprudence.

No matter how many safeties your put into this sort of thing, how much rehearsal, etc. Mr. Murphy always finds a way to sneak in here and there. My fall back in the 70s was due to a mechanical mishap . . . there's nothing like being a skipping stone across a large lake :?

People that get hurt due to lack of research and development are one thing, but even the pros get into a fix here and there
