Ok..

I got the pena coin trick a few days ago and (after tearing numerous orabge sheets !) I managed to get it to work.

However my delivery has some way to go.

I have read here that you can use two coins (either one on top of the other or two and the spectator chooses one). What I would like to know is how do you work these two variations (I am a beginner so any help would be great) and how do I set them up (PM me if it's not to be shown here).

Also could anyone give me tips on how to set this up effectively so that the audience don't guess that it's all setup before hand. (like how to use a spectators coin etc..)

Sorry if this is basic.. but we all start somewhere.

Just one final question..

I have coin and bloobab in my pocket and take a glass.. whats the easiest way to get it setup without the spectator seeing (ie.. put the stuff over the glass with the band infront of them). At the moment I have to arrive with the glass and bloobab already rubberbanded and this is not so convincing.

Or is it just a case of holding it so that you can't see it's set and then take a coin and palm it.

The way I tend to go with it depends on where i am. If for example I am in a restaurant (as a diner not as a table hopper), I would say I have something I'd like to show everyone, but I need a clean glass and an elastic band. I would then goto the bar and do the set up there (or if at home Id go to the kitchen).

I have been told that half the preparation can be done before hand, and the sheet then just banded to the glass, but I have never done this and always find an excuse to do it out of sight...

As a close up routine, and would have the whole thing prepared and in a close up case or brown paper bag, but to be honest I have only ever done this to family and friends. It does however deserve a much bigger audience than that, but I guess the nature of the trick means that that is mosty how it will be peformed.

Happy Toad has no doubt already pm'd about the coins overlapping, so I will just add that imo that is an important convincer to the trick, as is asking them to select the coin they wish to use.

For what it's worth, as this as already probably already been said by Toad...

1. Yes, the whole thing can be set up before hand. I'm sure Toad has revealed the 'quick setup' item.

2. My method is to use a silver coin - i.e. 10p- for the 'melt'. They look much more convincing colour-wise.

3. Ask to borrow a 10p and a 2p

4. Have the loaded gimmick rolled up CAREFULLY, banded with the rubber band. They are in your pocket.

5. Palm off the 10p, and conceal the 2p. These are in separate hands, although the illusion to the spectator is that both coins are in the hand that the 2p is in.

6. Go to your pocket to fetch the rubber with the hand that the 10p is in. Ditch the 10p as you take the rubber.

7. Whilst under guise of using both hands to remove the rubber band, bring the 2p over to the rubber. Immediately now hand the rubber band to the speccy, and ask them to bring the glass closer. 2 instruction to the speccy mean their mind is elsewhere for a second...

8. Place the rubber mat FLAT on the table, with it's 10p and the borrowed 2p on top. The 2p can be stacked offset on top of the 10p. Careful - if you're not gentle, the rubber will tear.

9. Pick up the whole sheet, with the 2 coins, as one item.

10. Place over the glass, and ask the speccy to stretch the rubber band over the top, sealing the glass.

11. Ask them to name one of the coins... use a magician's force to force the 10p... i.e. if they say '2p', give them the 2p, if they say '10p', GIVE THEM THE 2p and say "OK, you chose the 10p, that's the one we do the trick with' etc....

12. Perform!

Some more quality advice I can't really add anything to that other than stick with it m8, this effect goes down very well to the young and old and is worth finding a way to show it off
You can use other items to pass through as well, it is a little hit and miss finding what looks good, just try stuff that has no sharp edges.
I have a die that works well, just a thought.

I haven't done this one for a while, thanks for reminding me how good it is Now where did I store my replacement sheets?.......

By the way I often don't use a rubber band, I get them to wrap there fingers around the glass to hold the rubber instead. Works well if it's a fairly narrow glass.

Hope this is the right place to post this - it does follow on so I didn't want to start a new post.

I have just bought the pena coin / Gozinta and so far I have not been able to get this set up.

I think that I may be not thingymagiging the whatchamacall it enough, but I am worried about it breaking.

It is diffcult to explain where I think I am going wrong without giving anything away but I think it is down to how much push and pull I am using (if this makes sense).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tip...

You can push and pull until the thing you are pushing and pulling is practically transparent.

Don't fret... I think we ALL have killed at least 3 or 4 gimmicks before we got it right

Would I be right in saying that the coin can be placed on the end of an upturned shot glass or short length of wood and the thingummy then really pushed down hard to achieve the desired result? I'm sure I've seen photos of this in one book or another - might be the Paul Daniels' Adult Magic Book where he discussed the use of a, er, prophylactic, for this effect.

Mandrake is absolutely right, although, an upturned wine cork on blu-tak is my own personal fave.

As for another tip, all I will say is latex disposable gloves.

Quick question - what's the advantage of using latex gloves instead of prophylactics? (If you're strapped for cash, you can use gloves which have previously been worn!)

Well... I don't know what sized prophylactics you use (!!!) but you get a better sized portion of a rubber glove!

Plus, unless you get 'dry' prophylactics—I imagine them being hard to prepare, handle and perform with (THE TRICK, THE TRICK! PERFORM THE TRICK, NOT... oh, Goodness!)
