The Pass

Postby FlipBack » Sep 8th, '12, 00:38

I used to do magic as a hobby but with life being what it is I ended up dropping it. However I'm trying to pick it back up, (8 years later), but as I go through my books and DVD's I find none of them deal with The Pass. To that end I am looking for recommendations regarding videos that go into teaching The Pass in detail. Thanks in advance.

Hi there is the usual books, I think its page 153 of Royal Road. Personally I bought Jason Englands Teaching of the pass it can be bought as a download, he is a pretty good teacher. The one thing I have learnt is its not how good at the pass you are its how good you are at finding that offbeat to perform the pass.

I also leant the pass from reading the Royal Road. I am in agreement with Craigie that the true skill when performing the pass is knowing when to choose the offbeat moment to make the move.

Jason England's foundations is the best you will ever get. I did a review of foundations 2 if you give it a quick search. :D

At the risk of turning into a bore, I wrote an Ebook on various passes which has been quite well received.

It has been reviewed on the Bunny here: http://www.magicbunny.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... 8&t=47071&

I also have the strike deal which I'd recommend, but in order for you make it as good as Jason's (and I'm nowhere near) it'll take you a long time. From memory he does a push of second on foundations 2 but I found it awkward. The strike deal is easier to get to grips with, and with a little bit of movement, can be easily covered. Laymen never eork out what youre doing - at least they havent for me! Of course, if you don't want to cover a strike deal then it's many years of slavish practice! :D

I've just re-read you post! Apologies for the confusion. Just to clarify, the push off second on foundations 2 is not the same as the strike second deal which is available for download on Theory 11. I found the push off second to be more unnatural and I couldn't get to grips with it. I found the strike second to be easier. But I guess untill you see them both it's difficult to say which would work best for you. Don't punish your wallet toooooo much though! :D

On The Pass by Richard Kaufman is a very complete DVD indeed. I started too late and my hands just don't work like that, but it really is a superb resource.

The Pass - by Randy Wakeman, reviewed here

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Ken Krenzel was a renouned expert on the Pass and i have his video tape with Gary Oulette which goes through just about every pass i can think off . If you can get it on DVD its worth it or...International Magic were selling the old tapes for a fiver which is where i picked this up. Thats if you have an old Video Player .

Ken did have big hands though which gave him a big advantage
