There's a more fact-laden piece than the one in the Daily Mail here:

I would be very surprised if he did 'time' for this, more likely a community punishment.

I was recently rather shocked to find out about community punishment, who gets it, where they go, what they do; the most shocking thing I think was what you have to actually do to serve jail time!

As for Richard's career in relation to the public, I'll be interested to see where it goes.

He'll still be recognised locally in the street but it will be for a far different reason.

I'm inclined to agree. His career is over, he'll probably have to sell up and move, and he's shown contrition, although that video was deeply ugly on a number of levels.

I know he's been on Fool Us and BGT and I've heard he's got a possible appearance on The Slammer soon.
Or did I misread something?

I just wonder how far afield anyone with that sort of history would have to go to start over again? Obviously the past will always catch up but the English speaking countries would be the likely destinations and even then the details of any Criminal Record will be passed on. Perhaps there are non English speaking countries where such a history would be less of a problem? Other than that, some kind of 'ordinary' job seems to be the thing, assuming fellow employees don't feel uncomfortable and protest about it.

Thailand? Singapore?

The thing is, as the newspaper stated, he became a local hero, so he will have to move away. If he releases effects and lectures (though it's hard to purely earn a living from that) then there seem to be many magicians (as I shockingly discovered on Facebook) who couldn't give a monkey's nether region what he's done.

Even that's come in for criticism :D !

If a custodial sentence is imposed, I daresay the other inmates will be 'having a quiet word' over what's happened.....

The trouble is with moving to another English speaking country is that they won't let him in if he has any criminal convictions. Canada, the US, and I am sure Australia and New Zealand will require a certificate of character from the British police which he won't get now that this has happened.

I don't think all is lost though. After all this is behind him he can easily move somewhere else in the UK under a different name. Or to Ireland where they have a very relaxed attitude to wickedness. He should put no photographs on his website or his literature, keep clear of local magicians who will blab about him on the internet and give the game away and he can start all over again. Alas his TV career will be dead and gone but those things don't always last anyway.

Oh, and it might be a very good idea not to send rude pictures to 15 year old girls in the future.

I think Australia and New Zealand are even more strict than America.

I am sure you are right. Ironic since Australia was founded by convicts we transported there. As for the US Canadians can't cross the border even if they have the slightest misdemeanour on their record. And the reverse applies. A famous magician you have all heard of recently came from the US to work temporarily in Canada and was turned back from the border for a minor offence of 40 YEARS AGO!

Poor Richard is screwed. Perhaps the Isle of Wight will take him in.
