I was doing the self folding bill a little to close, and she reached out and snatched up my bill and broke it in the process! she still doesn't know how it worked or that she broke anything, but it was a good lesson for me. I don't think i will replace it though. There are other more suitable effects more fitting for my type of venue.

There is a bigger lesson here. Why did she grab the bill. What in your performance prompt her to do so? Somewhow you presented a challange and she took it and you basically lost. I have performed for years a floating orb. Much like Steve Fearsons floating cig. Okay exactly like that, only I now use the tuarnutla cause it is more convienient for me. Anyway, I float the orb between the spectators hands. Never have I had somebody grab the orb. Granted I started this routine late in my magic career and had already learned the lessons of people wanting to examine the props, grab the cards etc. We all go through it. Many of us learn the error of our ways and adjust so that doesn't happen. 9 times out of ten the adjustment is in our attitude.

This for you should be a great learning opportunity. Not simply a give it up lesson, (although it may not be for you and you should retire the effect) but not without learning from it first.

yes I know this was my fault, she grabbed it up partly because she was my friend, and knew she'd get by with it, and partly because it wasnt during an actual performance but rather a small gathering of friends. i gave it no introduction or story i was just like hey check out my latest trick. dumb I know. live and learn

I was thinking about a funny moment that happened to me, when my bill got snatched out of my hand by a drunk friend, this was many years ago, but figured I'd share the story and I didn't mention how long ago it took place.
I am not a drinker at all, but on this one occasion (really) not a drinker, I was pressured and gave in to having a couple cocktails.
I was young like 19 or somewhere close to it, I didn't have much experience in magic or any direction, I broke the number one rule and showed a trick while a little bit tipsy. The method still was not exposed, and I have never repeated this mistake in over 20 years, but I think I've hurt my character by airing my dirty laundry. About the "I presented a challenge and I basically lost" comment, true very true

The thing is, if you are giving up sex to perform magic? Well you do indeed have a problem.

I chose magic over sex.....well i say chose....i had the option of magic or no magic......
