difficulties banding your coins?

Postby seymourmagic » Oct 19th, '12, 22:47

well, I had no problems with the larger size, but the quarter size kept breaking while trying to put it on.
My quarter folds in two different places, the band usually breaks when adding the third piece.
I finally got it on after breaking 95% of my new bands first :( Is there any helpful hints? I was being patient and trying not
to overstretch them, but to no avail. They seem to break to easily, I'm wondering how old they were before I got them,
and if they were exposed to much sunlight? I'm not going to complain about them, I'm just going to order more, maybe from a different
distributer. Do any of you have such difficulties banding your coins? suggestions?

Were you using a cocktail stick, or your fingers?

Have you tried warming up/pre-stretching the bands?
Also you can get different diameter bands, perhaps yours are too small for your intended use.

Try starting using your fingers and then, when you get to the half way mark, switch to using a cocktail stick.

Do make absolutely sure that the channel for the band is 100% clean of bits from the old one, also!

I sometimes think another hand would be useful when trying to re-band coins.

Make sure your stock is new. I used up nearly a whole packet when re-banding mine a while back. After a year or so they do seem to get a bit decrepit and lose their elasticity.

Also, In case you are not aware, start with the center piece and work your way out.
