ILC Deck - Rooster Heart & Lawrence Turner

Postby Aza » Nov 1st, '12, 13:03

Ok before i start, this has been semi reviewed before here: ftopic41174.php but my review is purely for the ILC Deck.

The Effect

The cards are shown face up to the spectator(s) whilst asking whether they have heard of tarot cards, the magician explains that the tarot can be transferred to standard playing cards. The cards are fanned face down and the spectator(s) is asked to touch a card on the back, whichever one they are drawn to most....they then hold the card face down until you decide to get them to turn it over....and enjoy the reaction.

Cost

£15.00 from Lawrence directly.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I would give this a 1 or a 2, this is one of those effects that allows you to concentrate on your presentation and in my opinion presentation is paramount.

Review

I purchased this from Lawrence a week or so ago, and it hasn't left my pocket since! This is perfect for my walkaround/close-up work in pubs/bars. I have used this on at least twenty different people and the reactions i got were fantastic, i am hesitant in putting this review as the less people who perform this, the better it is for me!

The instructions i received are well written, and actually hilarious to read, also Lawrence is a perfect example of excellent customer service. The script given is absolutely workable, but i would recommend you create your own and make it personal, as i say before, it's all about the presentation.

Overall

I give this a 9/10 because there is always room for improvement, but the effect is down to you as a magician. I will leave it up to you where you perform and who you perform to.

Much love

I bought some R&S decks from Lawrence yonks ago and not on;ly were they much better prepared than the commercial ones I previously bought, they lasted much longer as well. His products are quality stuff indeed.

I've just remembered what the reveal is.

If the spectator doesn't engage in the effect,
then the only thing left is the method.

Hahaha!!! That's hardcore!!!

K ;)

Thing is, I'm not joking. And I usually rough every Sunday

That must take up a lot of floor space or do you have a shed/garage to do the work in? As I've mentioned in the past, some of the commercially prepared R&S decks I've bought seem to have been very sloppily prepared and needed retreating almost immediately - a task which I thoroughly did not enjoy and neither did the dogs we had at the time who trod all over the cards.

Takes up most of the dining room table.
Fortunatley it's next to some french doors so the ventilation is good.

Just need to make sure the table it properly covered (newspaper usually) as any spray on the table can leave marks and tarnish the finish (a lesson learnt once...)

Strangely enough, I've noticed that the ladies don't take too kindly to having the furniture defaced or marked. I speak from experience, no idea why she made such a fuss, it was only a small-ish drill hole in the dining room table, wasn't my fault that I used it as drilled through a piece of wood and the drill bit was a weeny bit too long...

With all the labour and time taken to prepare these decks properly, the prices ought to be of a level to properly reward the maker - what sort of prices are applicable to a basic ID?

Dave did that to my lovely antique coffee table that used to belong to my Nan. I could have throttled him!!!

I usually say £8 or 2 for £15 (inc p&p); I'll also stack as per specification.
any custom jobs (different backs etc) would need to be quoted separatly based on the cost of buying in the deck. Of course if someone wanted to send me a deck have me rough it and send it back I guess I could sort that for a fiver.

Sounds very reasonable and if clients' own decks can be done to order that's even better!

Couldn't see this in Chris' or Aza's review. Like an ID, is it an instant reset and is it impromptu?

I don't like to term "impromptu", it's as impromptu as an ID is yes; but then I'd claim a 52 card stacked deck routine is impromptu so long as you stacked the deck yesterday and have it in your pocket. Anyway, short answer: yes.
And yes, it instant resets; and doesn't involve a stack so that "instant" reset is even quicker than in an ID.
