Can you roll a card tightly enough to do that?

If you're doing that pre-show then it might be OK but not so easy of you have to roll the card and get it into the Polos and reseal the foil wrapping 'on the hoof' as it were.

Theo Annemann did a version of this but with a dollar bill inside a pack of 'Life Savers' which are similar to Polo mints, I can't remember if the bill was signed or not. It possibly had a corner torn off to match at the end.

Hi There

It seems you would like the really impossible with no palming etc. This can be achieved like Pickman said. I use Rick Morratas card in orange as he gives a very detailed instruction on how to achieve it. There is probably hundreds of versions though so shop around. Without palming the best option is the card with torn corner, this allows you to place the card wherever.

I currently do a signed card in bottle and there is no time to roll up the card completely to fit in to the circumference of the bottle so I doubt you would be able to fit it into a polo mint packed in front of specs. I read of a magician who would get a spec up on stage have card signed and replaced in to the deck. He would then ask the spec for one of his cigs and he would give the spec one of his own too. The one he gives to the spec is actually his rolled up card with tobacco. Can't remember the dudes name but it was in an orange book called stand up magic with no method given.

Card appearing as a cigarette features in Derren Browns' Pure Effect. He actually states that it's his favourite piece, in his now famous/acclaimed work. It's based on Tom Mullica's "Card is cigarette" routine. The idea of it becoming a cigarette (according to DB) belongs to Karl Fulves and is published in his 1990 Secret Sessions." I only have the DB version. I've never bothered practicing it to be honest. However, having seen your thread it's re-ignited my interest in it. If DB rates it so highly then maybe it's worth a punt.

Unfortunately though, in this day and age of puritanical anti-smoking vitriolic bigotry, it's not that easy to perform. This is the sort of effect I could see DB performing at the turn of the century around Brighton's cafe's during a warm summers evening whilst the wine is flowing. I think I might have a go at this for this coming summer. It would be a great promo vid for your website because it looks so amazing. Which gives me an idea???

DB agrees that it's not serious mentalism, but may form a nice visual piece in the middle of a set. It's not difficult to perform. But like most of DB's work in pure effect - it's written in a particularly jovial and verbose way, making it inpenatrable to all but the most ardent of readers. Maybe one of the other sources cited might suit you better. Plus, pure effect is ridiculously over priced for what you get. You'd be better buying 13 steps and a case of champagne!

I would also add, that if you have pure effect, you can easily work a way for your polo mint idea - but there's no way on earth you could have the card signed. If you work out a way - market it and make your fortune!!!!

I appreciate I've now done three posts in a row on the same thread which may lead you to suspect that I'm insane but I'm shooting from the hip here. I wonder if a mechanical cigarette roller could be adapted to take a playing card??? They're small enough to be palmed after all. If a signed card could be inserted and 'rolled' then it would certainly be very narrow. Something for you boffins to consider.

If you invent it I want 10% of your profit - ad infinitum!!!
