That all depends on your level of skill with a deck of cards? Can you false shuffle? Stack a deck, retain top/middle/bottom stock, palm, do secret folds, top change, DL, centre deal? The list of sleights and card controls coupled with stacks, part stacks and memorised decks makes the list of great cards tricks virtually endless. It also depends on what style of magic you are looking to present? I have lots of favourite effects but they might not suit other performers? It depends on where you're at with your skill level and what you want to present? You can present a simple trick like a masterpiece, or take a masterpiece and ruin it.

I like many from the book "Royal Road To Card Magic" which is these days available in some high street book stores.

Especially "Design For Laughter". (c:

Buy Royal Road to Card Magic (RRTCM). Study it and study it again. Then study it again. Then study it again. Not only is it the best introduction to the study of card magic, but when you begin to ignore the amazing tricks, and start to appreciate the principles behind them, you'll be able to start inventing your own tricks, and/or changing them to suit your style.

That said, three cards across in RRTCM is totally unfathomable to lay people and is my favourite in the book. Card calling by Richard Osterlind is unfathomable to magicians. Osterlind says that if he was left with one card effect in the world, 'card calling' would be it. It's on his mind mysteries 2 DVD. This will be the best money you ever spend in your life IMHO. You will learn the best card stacking system ever invented and some of the most amazing unfathomable effects ever produced!!
If you then add an ACAAN effect or even a CAAN effect then you have your three stunners.

I like that one where the spec chooses a card, it's placed back in the pack and the magician finds it.

Anyone know what that one is called?

I may have been born yesterday but I stayed up all night.

I like Marlo's miracle routine, especially when starting from a brand new deck.

I'm curious, why no gimmicks? I'm genuinely interested, not just looking to start a gaff/ no-gaff flame war.
