The (NEW!) Mindpower deck by John Kennedy

Price: £22.00

Difficulty: 2/5 As always, your performance makes the difference!

They say:
NEW AND IMPROVED: Mind Power Deck is now manufactured by the U.S. Playing Card Company in red Bicycle Rider backs. But we didn't stop there - other important features have been added, making this the best mind reading deck on the planet!
Spread a deck of cards face up on the table and ask a spectator to look at any card. No one else could possibly know the card because he never touches or names it. You concentrate, then slowly but surely "read his mind" and name the card!

You can repeat it immediately and it will become even more baffling. In fact, even if several people simultaneously look at different cards you can read each person's mind and name his card correctly every time! John Kennedy's Mind Power Deck is so eerie, so impossible, your audience will be convinced that you possess a sixth sense.

Why is it so good? John Kennedy collaborated with master magician and mentalist Tim Conover to create the ultimate mind reading deck. It can be shown as a normal deck of fifty two cards and even be handled by a spectator without them noticing anything unusual. Yet you'll be able to "read their minds" correctly every time. And there's no system to memorize because the deck does the work for you. You'll absolutely love this trick!

I say:
For those of you who know and love the possibilities of Mindpower, this new incarnation offers performers the added comfort of having this VERY powerful effect in everyone’s favourite (Red) USPCC Bicycle brand back!

Apart from this welcomed change of back design…and this is a biggie for me…you get a Bike style JOKER with it! That’s right, no more rubbish jokers!

Finally, the cards are printed in a very helpful way to aid in the displaying of them.

And all for £22!

Oooooo, that feels sooo much better…and relax….

Overall: 10/10

What an intriguing review !
It sounds like the deck is examinable ?
Any downsides at all with the effect ?
Regards !
Piers.

The Mindpower deck is not examinable but as with most effects one should not readily offer this...it sets a bad precident. You can and do display the deck and all will look as it should.

Well... yes and no...

It's important at some points to let decks be freely handled. The reason that having a good quality "Bicycle" version of this deck is so important is that it will fit right into your set if you use Bicycle cards for everything else.

Something which I have been conscious of for a long while is the ability to swap in and out of gaffed/ungaffed Bicycle decks fluidly, without detection.

I.e. if you can start of with a red deck and let it be examined and handled and then move on to effects with a deck which is gaffed/gimmicked in some way, there will never be any suspicion. (but not in a 'Here look, it's a regular deck of cards" way! NEVER mention that the deck is 'a regular deck' because it SCREAMS out that you're hiding something)

The beauty of Bicycle cards is that almost all popular effects/gaffs/gimmicks etc. are available in Bicycle stock. Which is why when buying regular decks for ungaffed effects, you should really consider sticking with Bikes.

And now, with the advent of the Mindpower deck being savvy, it makes it even MORE showable, as the designs both front and rear match more closely your regular decks.

Bravo!

I got my copy yesterday. It's much, much better than the original. I wish I'd never bought it now, but of course had no way of knowing that this would come out a couple of years later.

That sounds good, the original deck was good as you could do the Derren Brown 'Smoke' Effect using that. Will have to check this new deck out.
